Help me choose a colour for a Kanken backpack :)

After months of thinking and researching, I have decided to get a Kanken as the next changing bag/toddler days out bag. I want a backpack that is practical, a good size, but also nice to look at (I like the look of a Kanken although I appreciate some of you won't) and colorful. I might occasionally also use it to carry my laptop at work.
I want it in an interesting color but not too flashy, iykwim. These are the ones I shortlisted, which one is your fav? If you have it, what color did you choose?

(This is just a frivolous Monday chat, not to be taken too seriously with answers like "just pick the one you like" please :) )

my advice would be to choose a colour that doesn’t show dirt, my dd had a pink one and it looked scruffy very early on. The label says to hand wash as it’s canvas material but even when I chucked it on the washing machine it didn’t get clean.

TitInATrance · 08/08/2022 09:38

I like the burgundy one best, smart for autumn but also works as casual.

EasterIssland · 08/08/2022 09:38

i like the green one from thre,

i'm about to sell my kanken or put it up for sale as i dont find it practical at all, no space for a bottle, those pockets are small and dont strech for a bottle.
the straps in summer ara a pain as they're too thin,
and it's just a normal pack with only one big space so cant easily access things when you need them. to be honest i should have never bought it

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 08/08/2022 09:40

They look like the most uncomfortable bags ever and very small. I won’t be able to make all the kids stuff in them.

InTheShadeOfTheFigTree · 08/08/2022 09:51

I've got one for carrying some hobby stuff as it's exactly the right size. Don't think I'd want to be using it for anything else tbh. The straps aren't very comfortable and the lack of compartments is a pain. Also it's very boxy, there's no stretch anywhere. Think I'd go for something a bit more like this for practicality:

Sorry, that's not a UK link, and no price in it, but you get the idea!

Blue with pink strap

LeeMiller · 08/08/2022 10:03

I have a big black one and a small grey one, a bit boring but they don’t show the dirt and DH will wear them which is very handy as I don’t have to unpack everything.

I agree about the pockets but I find them surprisingly spacious and they open up fully which is useful. The straps aren’t very comfy but they’re perfectly fine, and I think you can get pass to clip round them if needed.

Thanks guys but I have already made up my mind, I wasn't looking for suggestions on other bags... All I need is a rucksack I can use to carry: a nappy, a pack of wipes, a spare change of clothes, a sippy cup, a couple of snacks, keys and iphone. Occasionally a book or small toy. I think this is the right size. I am very fussy about bags and this is the only one I like that costs less than £100.
I also love the Sandqvist ones but a bit too pricey.

I like the teal

JaninaDuszejko · 08/08/2022 10:37

DD has a frost green one which is gorgeous. Considering getting one for myself but don't like any colour as much as hers!

TeacupDrama · 08/08/2022 10:38

if you mainly wear denim black white and grey I would get teal navy or grey one, if like me you prefer browns red etc I think terracotta 5th one is nice 1st one looks a bit brown boring for me, the pale grey may show marks more if it was me choosing for me it would be No 5, 3, 4, 2, 1 in order of preference

QueenOfThorns · 08/08/2022 10:39

I would go for the blue one

Marghe87 · 08/08/2022 10:43

@JaninaDuszejko I also love the frost green actually!

I have a grey one but never use it as the straps are so uncomfortable! But a dark colour if you decide to get one as they pick up marks like no one's business

LeeMiller · 08/08/2022 10:54

i think the pale green/grey will mark easily. The brighter green is nice and works with black, navy, denim. If you’re more of a camel/brown coat/jacket person then probably burgundy.

SILdidittoo · 08/08/2022 10:55

I've got a green one similar to the middle one in your pic, but mine doesn't have pink straps, they're like a chequered style. The colour seems to go with everything and I bought some padded things that go over the straps to make it more comfortable too.

WaveyHair · 08/08/2022 10:57

Green - middle one.

monsterastuckiosa · 08/08/2022 10:58

What colours make up the majority of your wardrobe?

You're going to be wearing it with outfits, so it's helpful to think about what will go together with most of your clothes

Icedbannoffee · 08/08/2022 10:58

It'll break soon so wouldn't worry too much!

SD1978 · 08/08/2022 11:01

Green or burgundy. Mine is big enough, the straps don't hurt or bite in, and is still going strong after three years. I love the unsolicited negativity.....HmmWink

Marghe87 · 08/08/2022 11:02

Interesting, the green one seems to be the winner so far...
I don't worry too much about matching it with clothes as I will wear it with casual outfits on days off with DD the majority of the time. I usually wear jeans (blue or grey or black ones) with a simple tshirt and trainers. In winter, most of my casual clothes are either black or blue or grey-ish. Maybe a khaki green one occasionally.

Marghe87 · 08/08/2022 11:03

@SD1978 I know, it seems that people either love it or hate it! I have heard the straps are actually quite comfy so I hope it'll be fine!

What about this green one? Better simple like this of the one with pink straps?

Blue with pink handles.

A friend of mine used one as a nappy/toddler bag. I was consumed with jealousy (in a minor way, I didn't seethe at night and kick my own, perfectly lovely handbag style bag. Maybe only the once.) I love them.
