Gel nails at home

Dd (12) is asking for a gel nail kit for her birthday with the little light thing. I am absolutely clueless about this kind of thing.

Is this a reasonable thing to buy her or is it likely to damage her nails or something?

Gels don't damage your nails as long as they are applied and removed correctly. I would have thought it would be quite difficult for a 12 year old to do this.

I don't think they're advised for under 16. I would stick with normal nail polish for her, so she can practice good application (very important not to get gel on your skin as allergies can develop). Then go for a gel kit when she's older.

She’s too young at 12. It’s inappropriate removal and application with buffers that wrecks nails.

Or picking it off 🤦🏻‍♀️

yes as the others have said, she is too young for a proper nail gel kit. Lots of brands do sets with “gel” effect nail varnish which would be suitable. QVC currently have some Nails Inc sets on there which look nice.

Thanks everyone - just the info I needed. She has quite sensitive skin so definitely want to be careful.

If you wanted some unusual nail polish colours instead, try here
You can filter by finish and colour (try putting "slick" or "holo" in the search bar Wink) the pop polishes slick collection is incredible
It has virtually every shade you could ever want
