I give up on my nails!

I really wanted nice and strong, short nails. But they just constantly going to shit

They always bend and then break off. So I end up with a random really long nail and then one next to it has just broken. They never stay the same length, always breaking

They make me feel so unkept. Argh

I was thinking of getting acrylics and just keeping them really really short but they wreck your nails so badly Sad

Have you tried using a strengthener? Nailtiques Formula 2 is amazing, it's the only way I can have nice natural nails.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 02/08/2022 22:25

Try getting Builder in a Bottle, it’s a bit harder than a gel but less strong than acrylic.

WarmBeerAndSandwiches · 02/08/2022 22:25

I've seen a massive improvement in my nails since I started taking vitamin D and selenium supplements. They are much stronger and grow really long without breaking.

Discovereads · 02/08/2022 22:33

Don’t put any polish on them. Just buff them. Polish weakens nails.

AristoltlesMaths · 02/08/2022 22:59

I bit my nails for 35 years. And then stopped!

I take a multi vitamin.

And don't chomp.

Another vote for Nailtiques

Get gel overlays on your own nails and you will have perfect nails most of the time.

I have the same and get them done every few weeks. Builder in a bottle is harder and keeps your nail stronger. I also apply a cuticle oil every night

NoToLandfill · 03/08/2022 23:40

Take biotin food supplements. Will let your hair and nails grow better and stronger.

blebbleb · 03/08/2022 23:53

Mine have always been weak and bendy no matter what my health is like. I get sns/powder dip done every month now and it stops them breaking as much.

seaUrchinOne · 03/08/2022 23:58

File edges lightly every day to avoid nails snagging with leads to breakage, buff nails and apply cuticle oil every evening, this help stimulate growth and keeps stops them becoming brittle.

A salon that offers The Gel Bottle’s BIAB! The only thing my varrrry fussy nails likes!

happyharpy78 · 04/08/2022 08:23

Mine are exactly the same! Slightly improved since I've been using cuticle oil but there's always a few which split or break still, leaving that long one you mention. So following with interest.

withiceplease · 04/08/2022 08:58

I'm Following a particular gym program since about March. I'm meant to have 120g protein a day - I usually get about 80g.
My nails have gone mad. I noticed that I'm getting irritated at the frequency I need to file them and my nail varnish grows out so quickly.
A complete diet overhaul may not be what you are looking for but it's definitely transformed my nails!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/08/2022 09:01

Vaseline rubbed in throughout the day makes a massive difference plus Mavala hardener.

wondabar · 04/08/2022 09:53

Where do you get Builder in a Bottle from? Is it the Gelesse one?

CookPassBabtridge · 04/08/2022 09:57

Mine have been rubbish since kids so I get acrylics, makes me feel good.. no painting, no chipped nails, no odd lengths.

Naimee87 · 04/08/2022 09:59

Are you painting and removing the nail polish? Mine cannot handle nail polish remover at all… they splinter all the way down and take ages to regrow. The best thing i ever used is a neutrogena hand&nail cream every evening and rubber gloves for cleaning/washing any dishes…

Ponks · 04/08/2022 21:51

OPI Nail Envy has improved my nails massively in the last couple of months. Persevere with it and the splitting and breaking will stop.

eurochick · 04/08/2022 22:04

I'm another one whose nails cannot deal with remover at all. I love having painted nails but can only do it occasionally or my nails just fall to pieces.

I have Raynaud's and a few months ago saw a comment linking it with shit nails. It makes sense as circulation to the extremities is impaired so the nails won't be getting nutrients. It eased my frustration a bit, knowing a possible cause.

The protein comment above is interesting. I have a fairly low protein diet. I might have to see if upping it makes a difference.
