What to wear with floral midi dress

I normally wear white trainers and a denim jacket with a floral midi dress but I need a smarter look. I can’t wear strappy heels. Any ideas/links please.

I wear wedge espadrille sometimes. Either with or without ribbons.

A blazer of some sort.

How old are you OP? Wedges are quite a dated style and probably look a bit old fashioned on anyone under 50ish?

Chunky loafers or mules could work if it's for work?

Not over a floral midi. I have a short double breasted biker style jacket in navy cotton which goes well over floral dresses. It's the same basic shape as a denim jacket I suppose but a lot smarter.

You could wear ballet flats or Doc Martens or Doc Martens style boots.

I also have several tweed hacking style jackets which I wear with this type of dress.

Depends on the cut of the dress - can you share a pic? What are you trying to look smarter for - work?

Chunky DM sandals (I feel a bit more up-to-date in these than in pumps/heels/wedges with a floral dress)

OP was looking for smarter , not up to date. I've had a look at DM sandals- don't know if they are "up-to-date"but they are extremely ugly.

Meghan Markle wears wedges and she is way younger than 50.

Thanks for all the replies. It actually for a cruise. The evening dress code is no jeans or trainers but perhaps they won’t be bothered about trainers if they are with a dress.

It's from Pauw, Amsterdam. Mine is getting on for 10 year's old. It's the same style as the first linked below but is plain navy, not striped. Pauw keeps their basic jacket styles forever and use a combination of cotton, silk, wool, linen, velvet and cashmere.

Flat sandals, I wear Birkenstocks or some less chunky ones, I have a pair that are similar to fisherman style and a pair of gladiator ish ones that are my favourites but you could go for fancy flip flop or thong styles, or Indian style.

If you are on a cruise do you need a jacket or will it be warm?

I bought these gold flats and these black sandals recently. Both to go with dresses as I find trainers too hot in the summer. I've worn them with either a black blazer or a denim shacket depending on how smart I want to be.

The thing is there is a huge difference in a trainer as in big, chunky sports style with a dress which looks so wrong as opposed to the kind of white trainers that somewhere like Mint Velvet sells. How about something like these?

And yes espadrilles are everywhere as flatforms and Birkenstock type.

I'm not sure Kate or Meghan are particularly fashion forward. Stylish in a classic (royal) sense perhaps.
