Want to get a Chanel bag but don’t know which to buy?

Hi I am looking to buy my first Chanel bag. It will be my first real luxury bag as I have never really invested in anything that expensive before but I’m turning 40 this year so I really wanted something special for my birthday. I’ve heard that it can be quite hard to get hold of bags now. 😀any suggestions on a classic bag which will lasts a long time? I am thinking about a Chanel flap but I’ve heard that they are really hard to get! Thank you!!

The Chanel flap bag is definitely an iconic classic bag. It’s more of an original classic but there are other newer classic bags as well. I quite like the top handle flap bag as you have the option to hold the bag by hand too.

Chloeleee · 31/07/2022 03:48

you can see the bag here on Chanel_theory There’s a lot of bags on this chanel - maybe you can check out the range for ideas.

Isabelle70 · 31/07/2022 10:10

I would go for the similar style of bags as to what you use now. Will it be a special occasions bag or day to day?

Margomama · 31/07/2022 10:16

I was thinking about a special kind of bag as i don’t think I can justify using a Chanel as a everyday bag - especially as I am always with kids in tow!!!

Thanks Chloelee for the suggestions. I’ve just had a quick look, the channel looks great - lots of bags styles!

You can buy the classic flap fairly easily. They operate a restock on demand (I’m sure there is a technical term) in my nearest store, so they have a couple in stock and the system auto orders when one is sold. If they don’t have what you want it’s nearly always in within a day or two.

I bought the jumbo classic flap in cavier with platinum hardware at the beginning of the year and it was just over €8k. There’s been two price increases since then so probably nearer to €9k.

I would go for the style you would use most often as I don't believe in saving for best. I have a couple of WOCs & I think a mini flap.

pushions · 31/07/2022 14:13

wouldn't pay today's prices though 😆, I was more frivolous in my youth.

Margomama · 31/07/2022 15:10

I agree. The prices are pretty crazy nowadays! Sigh. So I have to choose wisely!
thanks for all your inputs ;)

the jumbo is lovely but I’m a bit on the petite side so I’m thinking maybe something smaller would be better for me.

WOC or Classic double flap.

Thischarmlessgirl · 31/07/2022 16:45

I have a medium double flap in caviar with silver hardware, It’s lovely and very classic. I also have two Wallet on chains which I probably wear the most, surprisingly versatile. Enjoy 😉

Margomama · 01/08/2022 05:15

I am curious to know how much the WOC can fit inside?

Look for pre loved. Shops like Sellier Knightsbridge are worth knowing about. Not cheap but all offerings are in first class condition.

spinduffy · 01/08/2022 19:35

You can get a woc saver which expands the base and allows it to
hold more. I can get my iPhone, bank cards, lipstick and key into it. It’s a good chain length for crossbody as the classic flaps can’t easily be worn cross body. I’ve a jumbo, medium classic flap and a WOC. There are Chanel groups on Facebook which can be good for preloved.

Sexnotgender · 01/08/2022 19:37

Join the WOC lounge on Facebook if you haven’t already.

superplumb · 09/08/2022 18:58

Years ago I got a jumbo in caviar. Wanted one for ages but it didnt suit me, felt heavy and daft cross body. I'd like a trendy woc I think.
As for woc lounge, I, and many other left over a member scamming others and the allegation was that the admin whitewashed concerns over it. Caused lots of drama which I couldnt be bothered with. Papillonkia is a good seller who offers returns. Make sure if preloved you get it checked the checked again

allfurcoatnoknickers · 09/08/2022 19:13

I'd also suggest a pre-loved, or even a true vintage one if I were you.

Personally I have my eye on a quilted mini with top handle, but I know they're not for everyone!

Ivgotasecretcanyoukeepit · 10/08/2022 00:09

i would absolutely purchase a Chanel flap if it’s your first Chanel. They are timeless and hold their value so well so really it’s an investment.

Chanel have had some quality issues recently and the bags aren’t as good quality now as they were pre 2019 so preloved is a great idea.
I always use Sellier in Knightsbridge for preloved. They will normally have full set Chanel’s too.

if you have £8000 etc would you not look at entry level Hermes Birkin or Kelly? Hermes quality is by far superior to Chanel and their aftercare ie the Hermes spa is second to none.

Changechangychange · 10/08/2022 00:19

Agree look at pre-loved. I have a Proenza Schouler bag (obviously not in quite the same price range, but they are £2k new) which I got from Vestaire for £450, and I use it as my everyday bag. If I’d spent £2k I’d be a bit more precious!

heavyistheheed · 10/08/2022 00:23

I have a few (cough) Chanel but my favourites by far are the Boy bags. They just seem 'cooler'.

Nw22 · 10/08/2022 07:48

There has been another proce increase today. A jumbo is now over 8k

Ireolu · 10/08/2022 18:59

@Nw22 that's just wow. OP be careful with Chanel there has been constant talk of issues with quality and defective leather with some of the newer styles. Mainly the 22. The 19 is very popular at the moment not sure will be a classic. The CF is ridiculously priced at the moment and I wouldn't buy one now. For the money and for versatility I would get a rectangular mini or an old medium boy. They are my favs to use at present.

I'd love a boy. Dark green or blue with petrol like hardware
