Cream Eyeshadow - how to stop creasing?

I bought some fancy charlotte tilbury eyeshadow. I sort of patted it on with my finger but it creased a bit. Does this always happen? How is it best to apply it? Any tips appreciated as it was a bit pricey and looks nice qnd sparkley when first applied.

I’ve just bought an elf primer for a reasonable price and it’s doing a nice job. I’ve also like Urban Decay in the past but it’s expensive

Thank you! I don't know why I didn't think to use primer with the cream eyeshadow I thought it was just for powder. I'll give it a go thanks.

Patting on a setting spray prior to applying also works a treat
