Has anyone bought one and is it worth over £300?

DH bought me one as a present. I find it heavy , it certainly dries quickly, but this doesn’t always suit my hair, which has a fine texture.

I purchased the Dyson airwrap and it is very cheaply made. The feel and look of it when you hold it does not scream £480.

I say this because as soon as I took it out of the box one of the bottom parts fell off. Then the weight of the actual thing is light, which means that motor (the most expensive part) is not high quality. Then the attachment do not hold in place to the unit, I got so fed up with the curl attachment that I gave up in the end trying to get it to work. This was on day 1, and after 1 hour I went back to shop and returned the item.

I have fine hair and I tested it, doing half my head with Parlux hairdryer followed by GHDs, then other half with the Dyson airwrap using the various attachments.

I was very disappointed the Dyson airwrap left my hair frizzy; the curls were no longer tight, and this was using Kerastase Elixir. Really disappointed.

I was glad they accepted my return and I got a full refund.

I love mine. But I have afro hair and it used to take me 30 minutes to dry my hair.
With the dyson it takes 12.
If you're the kind of person whose hair dries super quickly or it dries straight without much intervention then I wouldn't bother getting a dyson.

I have one and I'd never go back! I have a short style that has to be blow-dried every day so I have definitely had my moneys worth. I 100% recommend.

I have a shark it was about £165 I watched reviews on you tube and think it's just as good

Lyricallie · 28/07/2022 21:36

I have one and have think curly/wavy hair and I love it. It used to take me about an hour to blow dry my hair. Now it's about 20 minutes!

Badger1970 · 28/07/2022 21:39

I didn't know that Shark did them - I was going to ask DH for a Dyson one for my birthday next month! That's a pretty big price difference.

Ilikewinter · 28/07/2022 21:40

I tried it and sent it back, I have fine straight hair and it was too powerfull, my hair ended up in knots.

IloveJudgeJudy · 28/07/2022 22:54

I've had one for years. I love it. It dries my hair quickly and well.

tweetiepie1 · 30/07/2022 11:13

To be honest, I felt the air was not directed correctly down the shaft, and that is why my hair was left so frizzy because the direction of the air matters a lot when you dry and curl the hair.

tweetiepie1 · 30/07/2022 11:14

I wonder notanaturalmum have you tried the Parlux hair dryers?

Have you tried the Parlux hair dryers at all?

KalaniM · 30/07/2022 12:48

So is the shark the closest to a Dyson without the price tag?

jcoc147 · 30/07/2022 12:55

I bought the dyson air wrap and my DH bought me the dyson hairdryer at Xmas. The air wrap I didn't rate and ended up getting rid of but the hairdryer I couldn't do with out now. I thick curly hair which takes forever to blow dry but with the dyson hairdryer it takes less than 10 mins.

Bananaman123 · 30/07/2022 20:02

I loved my parlux but got the dyson for a birthday gift. I’ve been using the dyson for a year and a half and love it, doesn’t damage my hair and quick drying. I’ve used my parlux over the last few weeks while decorating and having my dyson in storage and I feel that even on the lowest setting it is now too hot for my hair, just don’t like it as much.
