Silk Fred - be careful!

I’ve been caught out by the returns on Silk Fred. They only allow 14 days for returns and they’re completely inflexible. I was 4 days outside and they wouldn’t help. I’m out approximately £500 for dresses that are honestly really poor quality for the price - think £85 for a dress that looks like you could buy it at a market stall.
it’s an unusually short return window, I’ve never ordered from a company that offered that short a time, so if you’re ordering for them it would be good to be aware.
For myself I wouldn’t touch them again with a bargepole.

I had a crap experience with In The Style. A T shirt I ordered was £15.99 with delivery it came to £21.99. Had to return it as it was tiny & only received £15.50 refund. Totally crap, will never use them again.

When you buy online & return it, the seller MUST refund any shipping charge as well. It's the law but a surprising number of reputable companies try to pretend they don't have to. I have a teeny tiny Etsy shop and I have to abide by this. (They're not obliged to cover the return shipping cost though, unless the goods are faulty).

I believe they only have to refund standard shipping not special delivery. I wonder if they got round it that way.

This is an interesting read.

Yes, sorry, it only applies to standard shipping. But unless you, as the consumer, has specifically asked for special delivery, it should be refunded. In any case, they should refund at least the basic shipping charge.

The seller should pay for either the shipping, or the return. Not both.

Regarding credit notes from Next - I get an account credit as I don't pay for the goods up front so that's a bit different.

I thought that too, but they have to refund standard shipping too.

Quote from the link I posted up thread:

The following advice applies to you if your online order arrived on time as expected and you’d now like to return it because you no longer want it.

Notify the retailer of your wish to cancel the goods and return them within the returns time period.

After returning the goods, the retailer should refund you the cost of the goods and the standard delivery cost you paid to get the goods sent to you in the first place.

I've returned stuff to ladaroute, no postage refund, and qvc, &other stories, I am still waiting for my refund with &other stories so I then will know if my postage was refunded. All returned within the 14 days.

WeAreTheHeroes · 25/07/2022 16:30

La Redoute do free returns though where they pay the postage on that. If they didn't you'd have to pay to return things so it would negate getting a refund on the original postage.

I must be in the minority but have had 4 dresses from Silkfred this year (due to a ridiculous amount of weddings)

All have been good quality so far. I sent one back purely due to it not suiting my shape, informed them of refund, sent it back and had refund in account within 6 days (I actually commented how suprised I was at this)... It is 14 days to inform and another 14 to return although I did do it quicker due to needing money back in my account ASAP

My experience has been the same as yours. Plus I ordered a lot of options (multiple outfits sometimes in multiple sizes) as I had events to go to in the 10 weeks post giving birth! And there was only 1 item I couldn't return and that was my fault. Luckily it fits but I wasn't sure about it...

I ordered a teddy jacket from Groupon.in size 10.when it arrived it was very poor quality as well as far too big.at least a 14, but said Large
I asked immediately to return it.it has taken me from mid April up to now to get a refund.even through Paypal.
I will never buy from Groupon again

Unless you get ill, have a family emergency ,go away for work, go on holiday, can't get to the post office.

It'd be a bit daft to order something knowing you're about to go on holiday or away for work.
