Schwarzkopf Live - Opinions?

I have bleached hair and I've always had it toned bright colours.

Historically I've always had my hair toned at a salon but there was a mass exodus of good colourists from the salon I used.

I tried another salon (highly recommended, very trendy, very cool, lots of stuff on SM and online about their colour expertise) but my bright pink toner washed out after two or three washes, but didn't wash out evenly. I won't be going back there.

I don't need my bleach re-doing yet so I'm just looking for a top-up colour before I need to be bleached again. Does anyone have experience with Schwarzkopf Live bright colours? Do they last? Are they easy to apply? How do they fade?

If not Schwarzkopf, what other bright colour kits would you recommend that'll last a while and fade well?

Thank you!

They’re absolute shit in my opinion 🤣

you’d be better looking at brands like manic panic, inflashy, adore and iroiro.

you’ll get more for your money and can dilute with conditioner to suit.

😅 Thanks for that! Why is Schwarzkopf Live so shit?

I've tried Manic Panic before as a toner but it didn't seem to do too much. Are the bright colours better? I've not come across the other brands, any that you'd particularly recommend?

The love colours fade really quickly on my hair. Manic Panic seems to last a lot longer.

Fawnia · 21/07/2022 15:05

Manic Panic is probably the most accessible and I would recommend getting a bright colour and mixing with conditioner. It should be more pigmented and therefore last longer.

Schwarzkopf Live Formula is probably poorer so you have to purchase it more often to refresh. It’s also got less product. Anything in the supermarket won’t be the best.

Thank you. Sorry if this is a dumb question but why would you mix it with conditioner, please?
I used Manic Panic pastel purple toner on damp hair and it didn't do very much. Would you recommend using on dry hair?

Be careful with the Live colours too, lots of them also have bleach in which only given a cursory mention on the packaging so many people have fried their already bleached hair this way.

You could try the Bleach London brand from boots, I use the coloured shampoos and conditioners but they also have a range of toners and semi permanent colours.

IceIceBabyBump · 21/07/2022 15:44

Thank you for that! I've used Bleach London toners before, but not SP colours.

OP, I’m not sure it sounds like you have enough general home hair dyeing experience to be attempting this yourself.

PP is recommended mixing manic panic with conditioner because they’re semi permanent hair colours made of vegetable pigments, not just quick wash in/wash out again in 3 washes toners. If you put a manic panic full strength on bleached hair in a bright pink, you will have very bright deep pink hair that could take a few months to wash out completely. If you’re wanting just a hint of pink like a toner and the ability to wash it out quite rapidly to change colour, then you need to dilute it massively with conditioner to get the colour you want.

Schwarzkopff Live colours are hated by all hairdressers, with good reason.

There’s lots of colour options in boots besides Live. Bleach London, Lime Crime, Revolution, etc.

ZealAndArdour · 21/07/2022 15:52

I used one of the pinks mixed up into a pump bottle with a LOT of conditioner. Best results applied to dry hair and left on for 20-30 minutes, tricking to get it fully even (especially as it washes out) due to differing porosity in places on your hair. But I wear mine curly so it doesn’t matter too much about variations in shade.

If it’s too pink or I want to fade the colour then I’ll give it a good wash with head and shoulders which fades it fast!

Oof, that's my worry - that I'll end up buggering it up 😬

I'm after a deep colour that'll take weeks/months to wash out. That's what I used to get when my old hairdresser did it. It'd grab really deeply - properly vivid colours, it'd stay like that for a couple of weeks then would gradually fade to pastel, then lighter and lighter over about eight weeks or so.

Here's what I had done last time - I'm after this again but I don't want it to wash out after 2-3 washes.

Going with a full semi permanent colour like Manic Panic or Bleach London sounds ideal then as they. No point messing about with toner and developer as it will be gone very quickly.

Artic Fox is another brand, also Pravana Vivids (but I think they’re US based and a bit more tricky to get hold of).

IceIceBabyBump · 21/07/2022 16:22

Thank you! Would you recommend a wee bit of conditioner? And applying to dry hair?
I really do appreciate all your help with this, thank you!

Oh if you’re going long lasting deep colour, then no conditioner unless you want to adjust the colour. Manic panic hot hot pink might be idea and fades to a light pink. Cotton Candy might be an option too, depending on your base.

and don’t apply to damp hair - they all say that. If you want longevity, apply to dry hair and leave it for at least an hour.

OneLittleLady · 21/07/2022 19:40

manic panic and directions are the best bright colours ive used personally. i used the directions most recently and i agree with PP apply to dry hair and leave as long as possible
