Hello HCAs/ nurses/ hospital doctors/ other ward staff!

I am a mature student and have just got a part time job as a HCA in a hospital.

I've got the uniform (actually love the dresses) but have no idea what shoes to get! The young uns seem to be wearing crocs which have inexplicably come into fashion (we're not really supposed to because of needle stick risk but they seem to be allowed).

I'm looking for black, probably leather but open to other materials, comfy but not fugly. High street price range.

Any and all suggestions welcome please!

Ask sister for the catalogue and she will order whatever you want from the supplier. There may be top up payments above the trust maximum price however in general I have never heard of anyone being asked to pay.

Never heard of this and I’ve been in the NHS many years! Responsible for purchasing our own shoes. We have a uniform department for clothing not shoes. Ward staff wouldn’t order it.

No way would be allowed to wear crocs! Lots bend the rules eg leather trainers or sketchers which technically are still not policy. Often depends on management. I wear Reebok workwear leather trainers.

Whatever you choose make sure they are comfy and supportive for your feet!

Im an HCA in a hospital & wear black Nike trainers. Very comfortable.
The only problem is if you get er bodily fluids on them they absorb them as I discovered yesterday with a urine bottle with a hole in the base!!
I had to borrow a pair of theatre clogs for the last hour of the shift!!
So I put my Nikes in the washing machine at home on 30 with bio wash & dettol rinse -- they've washed perfectly & look brand new!

Student nurse/community HCSW here I swear by the Nike zoom pulse trainers that were designed by nurses. The only trainers that I can get through a 13 hour shift without sore feet at the end
