I bought a very pretty (I think) new dress for my birthday celebrations next week. I got the turquoise one shown here

I paid much more than this for it (grrr) but I would never have bought it online as I needed to see it on me (so not so grrr!)

looks much nicer on that in that picture, and is 97% silk so feels totally gorgeous

it looks great everywhere but I have rather minor norkage and so need some kind of magically enhancing bra system to give me some help - any suggestions?

also, what style necklace would best suit this neckline? I would like to buy something handmade, either from our very talented mn crafters or on etsy but am not sure whether to go shortish of longer and danglier?

was looking at this with these earrings what do you think?

now, shoes - I would like some pewter or dark silver peeptoe shoes. Something quite 50s and glamourous - Anyone know where I could find such a pair? or have any other suggestions?

(think I may be off to buy the chocolate one from that site now, I dithered so much over turquoise vs chocolate in the shop and for £23 I think I may just take the choco too, it was gorgeous!)

ok, good point about one or the other, that helps

I saw those shoes - they are very nice and just the kind of thing I am after. However I wondered if they are too light in colour - I think I am after something a bit darker

(perhaps you could just loan me your norkage for the evening? )

ok, I owe you big time so you are entitled to all details...
will be the one before the big 4 oh. Am notoriously bad at being centre of attention so have feeling I may celebrate quietly next year. To that end have invited about 20 friends and partners out for dinner this year, when I don't have to be so much the focal point!! cunning, eh?!
we are going to a gorgeous french restaurant in soho which is very small and intimate (and I think we will totally take over!) it is still decked out in the style it was in in the 50s and so is very vintagey and gorgeous. So I'm liking my 50s vibe dress and shoes.
It's actually in February (meant to say next month not next week)

now, I need to work on what to do with my hair. I am growing it but it is not really long enough to put up. Think I may get it curled a bit and pin it back, that could look pretty...

so am I sorted then?
what else do I need?
(can you tell I rarely (nay, never) get dressed up!)

Great dress. Wear either the necklace or the earrings - not both. With such a statement dress you don't need to go overboard with jewellery.

of course you can come - you are my style guru!

my hair is a bit short to be honest - it's to the nape of my neck. It's kind of chestnut brown with a bit of reddishness depending on the light. It also has a bit of grey which may need to be discreetly tinted out. There is a lot of it! I will have a short little fringe (a la amelie) and think some sweet loosish curls pinned back could look kind of vintagey and sweet...

any other ideas?
