Bloated and puffy face

About 90% of the time my face is bloated and puffy and swollen looking. I am overweight so for awhile I thought it was just a fat face but every so often - the bloat and swelling disappears and I have a normal face that looks great. It only lasts a day then back to the puffy, fat face.

I don't know if it is alcohol or dairy or gluten or not enough water or hormones or allergies or autoimmune stuff or exercise or less salt or caffeine or a combo of all. I haven't tracked it closely as it can go awhile before a good day. I have tried tests a few times where I do everything right for a couple days to see if I can induce the good face but no luck!

Anyone else have this issue? I tend to just accept my puffy, swollen look as age / my good days are gone but then on that occasional day, I realize there is still a decent looking person in there somewhere.

Alcohol makes me puffy so I drink once every blue moon for special occasions. Also excess salt gives me puffy eyes so things like salt n pepper chips I avoid completely.

Salt and excess carbs do this for me.

And lack of sleep but that only tends to be around my eyes.

How much do you drink? Its booze that does that come and go bloat for me.

Wine Face?

I get it sadly

fuckboris · 19/07/2022 19:20

Wine does this to me.

TheChosenTwo · 19/07/2022 19:27

I get this but it’s food related 😂
every now and then I realise my jawline is more defined and I look a bit younger (in a weird way, just more youthful I suppose?) and then I put two and two together and remember that I haven’t had crisps/booze/chocolate for a few days. Salt also contributes to mine but I’m not giving that up. It doesn’t last!!

Wine 🍷

Midlifemusings · 20/07/2022 07:42

I have been drinking more wine than I typically do but still no more than a glass or two a night. I will cut it out and see if that helps. Maybe I need a full detox week of just fruits and veggies and non processed food to try and get my body out of this inflamed and puffy stage. I think some of it is allergies too - as my eyes and eye bags look really swollen. Or maybe alcohol can do that as well.

It’ll be the wine most likely. I got in the habit of a couple of glasses a night and so stopped completely a couple of months ago. I can definitely tell the difference in my face. All puffiness gone and just generally younger looking.

I used to have a puffy face but I started drinking 2-3 litres of water a day, getting more sleep and eating less sugar and salt. Now my puffy face is gone

Junebughustle · 20/07/2022 20:10

Wine does this for me. But I bought a gua sha and googled some tutorials and massage my face with it most nights - it makes such a difference and getting that excess fluid flushed!

SnBLurker · 21/07/2022 11:40

I get this sometimes. It's usually too much salt, wine or lack of sleep. If it's all 3... 😳 well, it's borderline allergic reaction territory!

You can de puff a bit with an ice roller and some facial massage. Obviously your best bet is to avoid all the above, but 🤷‍♀️

I'm certainly no expert. It might not be any of that. It could be a mild allergy or food intolerance..

tinfairyj · 21/07/2022 12:31

It will be the wine. A glass or two a night is a lot.

Hydrangeatea · 21/07/2022 12:57

Wine, most definitely wine! I used to drink a bottle+ a night and was constantly bloated. I haven't had alcohol for over 2 years now and the difference in my face bloat is incredible.
