Dying Hair

Hi. I have medium to dark brown hair. It's getting so expensive to go to the hairdresser's to get my hair dyed, cut and coloured. I get gray hair coming through every 2 to 3 weeks.

Have any of you successfully switched to dying your own hair and can you recommend any hair dyes? Thanks

My original hair colour was the same as yours and I used L'Oréal Casting Creme Gloss in various shades of mid- or dark brown for 25 years without any problem. Good quality product, reasonable price and always left my hair in great condition. I'm now letting my grey grow naturally but that's not due to dissatisfaction with the dye, just my personal preference.

Same as PP I use casting creme gloss and it works well, easy to use. I have to re-do it about every 4 weeks. I have medium brown hair naturally and usually use shade 513 or 500.

My hair was just a shade off black and I only had the greys covered by a hairdresser a handful of times in 30 years of dyeing (started going grey at 20😬). I managed to keep it looking decent for many years with any box dye that caught my eye! Clairol Nice n Easy was very reliable. I just did the roots for a few applications, then freshened up the whole lot every few months. I have now let it grow out to almost completely grey as even doing the roots at home was starting to get me down.
