I dont know how to dress for my size 22 body 🙃

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 14/07/2022 20:22

I was a size 32 so lived in jeggings or leggings and v large sacks floaty tops

im now a size 22 and have no idea how to not dress like that.

Im probably and apple shape, have a tummy and an apron and lots of skin 🙃, slimmer legs then you would necessarily put with my body shape but that means trousers that aren’t “tight” (fitted, like jeans, you know what I mean!) are just swaths of fabric around the upper thigh area and look daft.

I don’t mind a casual dress but don’t where heels and trainers fit my lifestyle better often so would want to wear with trainers

id love some help!

Well done on your weight loss. I wear empire line dresses with a v neck so I look slimmer round the neck but the dress kind of flows over my large tummy. I like wearing low wedges as I'm rubbish in heels. I also have really stretchy thick belts that I wear under my bust like an empire line if the dress isn't an empire line. I like the coloured blazers in fashion now over black top and leggings as it draws attention away from my tummy. I also wear empire line type floaty tops with v necks over jeans and a vest top. I rarely if ever wear high necks I always go for v neck or slouchy as I think round necks etc make my boobs look really matronly.

MammaWeasel · 14/07/2022 20:43

Exactly what @oldbutwiser said, and fan bloody tastic weight loss!

Oldbutwiser · 14/07/2022 20:43

I forgot to say go for your actual size or one size bigger. Wearing larger than your size clothes will make you look much bigger.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 14/07/2022 21:12

Thank you both, you’re very kind!

can I wear trainers with those kind of dresses or will I look like a 4yo playing dress up!

happy to buy cool new trainers if need be 😁

I always thought empire line would emphasise the tummy and make me look pregnant!

@Oldbutwiser May I ask if you’re near to my size? I like the belt idea but not sure A. Where to get one and B. If it would work w my stomach!

I'm a size 22 OP. I love dresses with trainers, but try to wear ones with a bit of a platform, Puma have really nice ones, so I don't look too dumpy 🙈 I also wear alot of smart joggers and slightly fitted t shirts and vest tops. I live in the country so don't tend to dress up much though!

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 15/07/2022 18:04

Thank you @Justcashnosweets , can I ask what kind of dresses you wear?

I do love a Platform puma!

Justcashnosweets · 15/07/2022 18:15

@IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece I tend to stick to A-line, or fit and flare if I can find them. Anything that skims over my stomach is a win!

EdHelpPls · 15/07/2022 18:17

That's amazing on weight loss.

I've recently got some gorgeous dresses and tops from Evans in the empire style others above have mentioned. I'm wearing the dresses with fitflop flip flops or their nicer sandals. I'll def wear with trainers when I find a pair I like!

EdHelpPls · 15/07/2022 18:24

www.evans.co.uk/elegant-wrap-top-spiced-plum I have this top and a few v similar ones in different fabric, and on me they hit just below where my apron would be visible. I've worn with denim skirt and black jeans with them. Sturdy/thick cropped leggings would prob look good too if you wanted something less tight. I just can't find ones that fit me right.

DSGR · 15/07/2022 18:46

Incredible weight loss! Well done! Are you happy at your size because if you intend to lose more I’d just stock up on basics like a few nice dresses and keep going. I say that as somebody who went from a 20 to a 12…

DSGR · 15/07/2022 18:48

Ps just realised that may have sounded like an insult, it wasn’t. I can just remember the feeling of being able to wear anything being a good one. If you’re happy then good on you, get yourself some lovely jeans and nice tops for a start?

shreddednips · 15/07/2022 18:52

Second the fit and flare suggestion, I got a few from new look a couple of years ago and they're lovely. I've also got a couple of v-neck summer dresses that gather below the bust (not quite as high as empire line) and then flowy from there down. I wear absolutely everything with birkenstocks, everything else hurts my feet 😆

I find that shopping second-hand from Vinted is easier because you can often find loads of the type of thing you want instead of trawling through loads of separate shops. Plus it's cheaper 😁

WorkEvent · 15/07/2022 18:59

I follow a few plus size influencers and the midi dress and trainers look is definitely on trend and flattering.

something like this? www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/dresses/vero-moda-curves-blue-floral-satin-maxi-wrap-dress/p/831806149

This dress comes in a range of colours and was really comfortable to wear.

Well done of your weight loss!
I’m a 22 on top, 20 bottom with large breast and stomach. Empire lines don’t flatter me so I go more for a trapeze style dress and floaty blouses that cover stomach and I find a straight cardi past bum helps to slim me down without it looking like I’m wearing a tent.

also like a swing top or loose fitting top and kimono on top. I live in jeggings, like the ones on Asda that have elastic waist. Also like the soft cotton leggings from next.

for me it’s a case of just trying everything I like to see how it looks on. I buy from next, Asda, yours and sometimes shein.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 16/07/2022 15:37

Thank you! I’m trawling yours and asos right now!

@shreddednips love Vinted aswell. I've found some really lovely bargains on there!

Oldbutwiser · 16/07/2022 22:32

Hi yes I'm a size 22 with a tummy. From what you've said we are are the same shape😁. I don't wear trainers with dresses but I do with trousers ,leggings, jeans. I like wearing sandals flats or wedges in summer and boots in winter. I bought my belts from charity shops as I couldn't find any thick enough online. I find empire line skims my tummy a bit. Obviously I don't look like I've got a flat tummy but it minimises it. Don't buy any belts that you can't see or try.on. I bought a couple online and they were tiny. Plus size shops sometimes sell them but charity shops usually have them.

Beetr00t · 17/07/2022 10:33

Congrats on your weight loss, what an achievement! I live in midi dresses with white trainers.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 17/07/2022 18:17

Thank you all! I’m still trawling sites 😁, I still would like to lose more so not looking to spend loads of money but happy to buy a few bits to make me feel better

I'm a 22 , love dresses in summer , Boden are comfy in summer or with leggings and cardigan in winter. Also love midi dresses, got fab couple from tu and m&co. Scamp and dude are beautiful too, their dresses look great with trainers. I agree get platform type or converse type but best thing is wedge sandals.
Some dresses classed as mini dresses look good with leggings and ballet shoes
Just got a lovely button through linen shirt dress, looks good if add chunky necklace

Newpuppymummy · 17/07/2022 18:32

Seasalt have a lovely range of dresses

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 17/07/2022 21:40

I’m VERY taken with the scamp and dude midi dresses but not sure about such a high neck. Does anyone else do similarly ace fabric but lower neckline?

There is a really useful video I was watching just yesterday on YT - MM Personal Styling Summer Styling for size 20-22 (don't know how to link). It is really helpful, she is doing a series of tutorials dressing different sizes/body issues - apple shapes/pear etc.
