Ive seen people using Monat on social media and their hair looks great. Does anyone know if the products actually work despite it looking like an mlm?

Google it. They make peoples hair fall out. Don't touch MLM products even if they are half decent anyway!

Some mixed reviews online. Ask for some samples so you can try before you commit to buying full size. I don't think that due to it being an MLM, products are necessarily bad, although any commission made by the person who sales it to you is probably LESS than what a sales assistant makes when you bought it in a shop. Also, I'm more reassured if the company' is a member of the Direct Selling Association,

BangingOn · 18/07/2022 15:28

The DSA is run by its member for the benefit of its members, it doesn’t reassure me at all.

I never buy MLM products anyway but would absolutely avoid Monat as I have read too many horror stories.

RobertJohnsonsShoes · 18/07/2022 18:54

My friend used to sell it. I'm guessing she didn't make much on it being MLM. She used to give me loadsa samples and actually my hair looked amazing and people commented loads. That said, I wouldn't ever spend that amount on a hair product so no wouldn't buy myself.

WibbleBibble · 20/07/2022 19:26

Thanks all. I googled it and the hair loss reviews scared me quite a bit, and then I saw the prices...even if they worked I couldn't afford them anyway!

I have a Monat hun on my Facebook. She is pretty unbearable. She is generally muted. Her hair looks ok but the cost is extortionate and she doesn’t seem to have any shame about making money from her friends. She also seems to claim to be some sort of Monat health consultant now which is even more grim.

ecosystem · 20/07/2022 21:19

DSA - yes, some issues with it but al least Codes of Conduct and Policies. Anyway, I've not come across Monat before. What are their prices like?

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 20/07/2022 21:21

Multiple class actions against them, horrendous hair loss and burning. Avoid like the plague.

ecosystem · 20/07/2022 21:21

Monat Health Consultant? Does she have any hairdressing qualifications?

SergeiL · 23/07/2022 11:59

None at all! I saw her peddling a whole load of supplements when she popped up on my Facebook when her 30 day mute ran out!

GettingStuffed · 23/07/2022 20:27

I'm on an antimlm group on Facebook and one of the members tried Monat once and now has permanent bald spots due to scalp damage.

ecosystem · 23/07/2022 22:01

My goodness - I've taken a look at their products - great marketing but it's very alarming to hear of the reactions to the products! Since having cancer treatment my hair has really thinned so I was thinking of trying Monat but I don't think I will now.

ecosystem · 23/07/2022 22:15

Please note - I'm not associated with Monat but I have found this court ruling in the UD which has dismissed allegations against Monat.

It's only a partial dismissal as the court has concerns that the plaintiffs won't be able to 100% prove that their injuries weren't caused by a prior condition. There's still a long way to go.
From what I've read the product contains a coating that makes hair look phenomenal for the first few tries, but then as it builds up and reacts to heat, it has a reaction which causes massive breakage (the consultants call this 'detox' Hmm) and then the more it builds it affects the scalp and causes burns.

Debpagage · 05/03/2024 15:07

I've been using Monat products for 8 years & it has transformed my hair, my hair was thinning & receding now I have longer, thicker hair. Thumbs up for me. Plusvthey have great sales 👍

deplorabelle · 05/03/2024 16:58

Got one on my feed too. She shares lots of rather implausible before and after shots, taken at different angles with completely different light. Sometimes I can't tell which is meant to be terrible hair and which is the much improved picture.

They sell powdered vitamin smoothie bolleaux as well which is always a red flag.

If it was remotely as effective as they claimed in regrowing hair, it would be marketed as a pharmaceutical not an MLM beauty product.

YouOKHun · 05/03/2024 17:41

I know this is a Zombie thread however it worth saying don’t touch Monat. It’s MLM and this means that all but the top uplines are getting scammed. Giving money to them just perpetuates the damage to most of people caught up in this unethical set up.

As DickieDavies said above, the reports back then were that at first it seemed like a great product but after a few months suddenly people’s hair would change and start to dry out and break off. There were also complaints about ingredients causing scalp damage. It wasn’t just a few complaints: in Canada alone there were I understand 800 complaints to Canada’s consumer safety group. The FDA had more than 400 reports of balding and shedding hair. There were many more complaints in the US.

Of course, being an MLM they aggressively pursued one former Monat Market Partner who shared a story on her SM of a woman suing Monat; it was all about suppressing the allegations and not about concern over so many complaints. As the product was sold by MLM distributors they were also continuing to sell product over which there was doubt because they were not allowed to question anything and were financially beholden to Monat.

The numerous complaints and lawsuits in the US are ongoing. The people who still sell it provide glowing testimonials (they would wouldn’t they?!) but the FDA found regulatory oversight at the Monat manufacturing facilities and the Florida Attorney General investigated the company’s marketing claims.

I’m glad you’re OK @Debpagage but with Monat’s history and ongoing questions about its products and ethics, I wouldn’t touch it.
