What the hell has happened to my chin?!

Ok, for all that I try not bother about things like this too much - this is upsetting me so be kind please. I’ve never been particularly pretty imo but recently I seem to have started growing chin bristles! I’m 39, nearly 40 if that helps. I’m honestly embarrassed by them - it does not feel good to have them.

At the moment I attack them with tweezers but I need a better solution. And is this normal?! Is it an age thing? I was not warned about this!

I’m not pretty and I’ve sort of given up
on being so at this point in life, but a hairy chin is a bit more than I can stand… help please 😫

spearmint tea apparently reduces facial hair in women

Notajogger · 10/07/2022 12:51

I'm mid 30s and have had them for years. I snip them when they get long ish and try and ignore them for the most part...I'm sure no one will look closely enough at me/my chin to see them and I don't have the energy to care anyway😆

Really? I had no idea. I’ll try and get some.

Unfortunately yes. The hormonal lady beard is a Thing. I pluck mine (good tweezers in the car, is my tip) and use a home IPL (Philips lumea for me) every month or so to keep them under some control.

How about facial hair removing cream? Pain-free and 4 minutes every couple of weeks or so.

I have considered it but I have quite sensitive skin and I’m worried it would make me break out 🫤

I'd need to do it every couple of days 🤣

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 10/07/2022 13:05

I have this - can't snip them as if I can feel them they have to go. I have a threading tool from eBay for about £5 and it clears them pretty well, just have to tweeze the stubborn ones.

chilledbubble · 10/07/2022 13:06

Tweezerman springy thing

Mollyplop999 · 10/07/2022 13:06

I wax mine. Bit painful but instant.

SeeingWhatUp · 10/07/2022 13:06

A hair removal wand (aka, mens nose hair trimmer, the cheaper option), once every 2 weeks or so. Low cost and pain free. Just sweep over the hair and they're gone.

MarmiteCoriander · 10/07/2022 13:06

I have an IPL which as reduced leg hair dramatically. I also had a session years ago at a salon- and the one treatment reduced by underarm hair to 1/4! I'd go to a proper, specialist hair removal salon for a few treatments. NOT a beauty salon that has someone with an IPL that comes in 1-2x a week though. Otherwise, continue plucking.

I can't stand feeling the little spikes and was told that it won't be 1, single hair, but multiple ones sprouting through at various times 😫

Yeah, I can imagine if they are baby soft hairs, no good for me, even threading was crap.

I'm fine with the Nair one for sensitive skin. I did a test first and only left it on 3 minutes and was fine. I don't use the moisturiser that comes with it though, that irritates me massively. Just water for a few hours.

Spudlet · 10/07/2022 13:14

@CloseYourEyesAndSee The threading tool sounds interesting, have you got a link to anything similar please?

@chilledbubble Ditto the springy thing!

@Mollyplop999 I have to admit I tried waxing my bikini line many years ago and left myself covered in lots of tiny bruises because I did it wrong somehow… it’s rather out me off the whole waxing thing 😳

@SeeingWhatUp I thought about a trimmy thing but then I wondered if you ended up with stubble?

@MarmiteCoriander Multiple hairs! The little bastards 😤😩

I bought a x10 magnifying mirror and discovered a beard I never knew I had! I pluck or wax.

flamingmango12 · 10/07/2022 13:20

Warning re: spearmint tea. It's due to reducing testosterone in women with hormone imbalances so maybe can reduce stuff PCOS symptoms like acne and facial hair but I tried it for those reasons and was so fatigued and achy! I paid for electrolysis for my new facial hair - I had just turned 32 when it happened

It was a selfie with an HD phone camera that alerted me 😩 Damn you, modern technology [shakes fist]

Springy thing Takes a little while to get used to twisting it correctly. Think I got mine in boots.

Ha same, I was all good until HD came along.

Numbat2022 · 10/07/2022 13:26

I use Philips Lumea - it keeps them under control. If I forget they come back, so I just pluck until I have time to start the routine again. Or shave if they've got really out of hand!

007DoubleOSeven · 10/07/2022 13:27

My beauty salon has chin hair threading as a standard treatment so I'm assuming it's pretty normal!

You can buy facial creams that slow hair regrowth too.

Other than ipl or laser I guess.

Puddlelane123 · 10/07/2022 13:29

One of those dermaplaning razors will do the trick OP

Zott · 10/07/2022 13:30

I have had chin hair since my 20s (55 now), it’s hormonal and there is no magic cure. If I leave mine for 4 days (not going out in public) it’s extraordinary how much I have, I have tried counting but got bored at 40. They are bristley wiry tough hairs. I have tried electrolysis and lasers over the years but nothing worked. A good magnifying mirror and tweezers is my advice. No harm in trying other things they might work for you when they haven’t for me but have a tweezers to hand in the meantime.

Try not to let it upset you, it’s not very nice but it’s not the end of the world.

Oblomov22 · 10/07/2022 13:32

I have electrolysis on mine.
