What the hell has happened to my chin?!

Ok, for all that I try not bother about things like this too much - this is upsetting me so be kind please. I’ve never been particularly pretty imo but recently I seem to have started growing chin bristles! I’m 39, nearly 40 if that helps. I’m honestly embarrassed by them - it does not feel good to have them.

At the moment I attack them with tweezers but I need a better solution. And is this normal?! Is it an age thing? I was not warned about this!

I’m not pretty and I’ve sort of given up
on being so at this point in life, but a hairy chin is a bit more than I can stand… help please 😫

You need a springy thing!

Warning re: spearmint tea. It's due to reducing testosterone in women with hormone imbalances so maybe can reduce stuff PCOS symptoms like acne and facial hair but I tried it for those reasons and was so fatigued and achy! I paid for electrolysis for my new facial hair - I had just turned 32 when it happened

I didn't know this! Not great to take in peri menopause then!!!

I use Philips Lumea - it keeps them under control. If I forget they come back, so I just pluck until I have time to start the routine again. Or shave if they've got really out of hand!

You may already know this, but if you use Lumea, or any other IPL or Laser, you must not pluck or wax - you HAVE to shave or the IPL just won't work. When you shave, you're leaving the base of the hair in the follicle and the IPL uses the pigment in that to destroy the follicle. If you pluck, wax or thread then there's no hair left to provide pigment for the IPL to work

The things I learn here! The things I learn! I was about to get spearmint tea, not the best idea for me then. Thank you flamingmango12. You've stopped me from doing something foolish. I often get a bit blind by natural home remedies.

For those of you who've tried electrolysis. Roughly how long does it take (per session and in total) and how much money for the face?

@BlueStarfish I’m currently having electrolysis on mine. 10x20minute sessions at just shy of £400 😭 and I’m on my second lot of 10. It is working but is painful and my face is quite red after a session.

Unfortunately yes. The hormonal lady beard is a Thing. I pluck mine (good tweezers in the car, is my tip) and use a home IPL (Philips lumea for me) every month or so to keep them under some control.

The car vanity mirror is the best for finding them!

BlueStarfish · 10/07/2022 22:13

@EyeSpyPlumPie I think the price isn't that bad at £40 per session, I expected more, but the pain scares the living daylights out of me, specially for needles going near my face. Thank you for sharing, now I just need to find out where I can buy the courage to do it.

SwedishDeathCleaner · 10/07/2022 22:56

Braun facial epilator + a good magnifying mirror. I do it every 2-3 weeks in the brightest light possible.

A Philips Lumea is what you need.

Yes 100% this. Don't faff around with any other contraption. This really works!

They don’t work on fair or grey hair unfortunately

Yes, I know thank you 😁 I just meant I pluck if I get out of the habit, until I have time to start zapping again. Small child = limited time to both remove facial hair and write coherent Mumsnet posts.

TheOGCCL · 11/07/2022 00:01

Very normal. I notice them on others in bright daylight so give yourself the once over at a window. I just tweeze mine, v satisfying but sometimes they go ingrown.

PinkTonic · 11/07/2022 00:28

What will become evident as you progress through the menopause is that whilst hair everywhere else becomes sparser, the chin fuckers just become increasingly luxuriant. I’ve got a little battery shaver, a springy thing and tweezers and it’s a bloody mission. Definitely have a spare tweezers in the car as well because they absolutely lie coiled under the skin unseen until they’re an inch long and really thick and then spring out when you’re on your way into the office for an important meeting.

Iammeiamfree · 11/07/2022 01:09

You're lucky if you're only getting these now at 39!!
