Box dye - no overhead shower. How to do it,?

We moved recently and have a shower and separate bath. I bought some dye yesterday as my roots need doing all fine.
Now I'm wondering how I wash it out? Do I just have a shower? I'm used to a shower in the bath so I could just put my head over the bath. Won't I get covered in dye if I just shower?

I used to rinse mine out using mug over the sink when I was a teenager and my parents only had a bath and no shower.

Use the kitchen tap?

Lochnessgiraffe · 10/07/2022 10:21

Kitchen tap is a possibility. I need to do it today but this might send me back to the hairdressers!

just rinse off in the shower - the dye will run down you but you wont get stained as the water dilutes the dye and its not lying on your skin for ages

LaCerbiatta · 10/07/2022 10:25

Why wouldn't you use the shower?? The dye will run through you but just wash off.

Nomummyonlyzuul · 10/07/2022 10:26

Stick your head under the bath tap, it's how I have done mine for the last 8 years as my landlord refuses a to install a shower head! A little awkward but it does the job!

I don’t have a shower at all I just rinse in the bath, I stick it on set a timer get in bath enjoy a nice soak wash shave legs etc then have a jug and rinse it off then get out and give the bath a clean, not ideal but not much I can do. Never had my body dyed either in shower when we had one or now

My hairdresser comes to my house and I always have a full shower when she does my roots. We don't have a bath.
She waits downstairs.
Remember though to wear something that you don't need to pull off over your head while you're applying the dye.

I just have a shower when I dye mine. I just make sure my skin is wet and soaped up and it dosnet stain as its not there long enough with the shower running on it the whole time. I use purple hair dye though so don't know if that would make a difference

Threetulips · 10/07/2022 10:35

I kneel down by the shower and put the head of the shower on the base. Works fine. Unless it’s a fixed shower head.

brokengoalposts · 10/07/2022 10:36

I've been box dying my hair for over 30 years, I've only ever stood in the shower to wash it out. I've never changed colour, not even once. I've never even considered it, lol

CredibilityProblem · 10/07/2022 10:37

Yes I just wear a dressing gown or a towel wrapped round me while it develops and then rinse my hair in the shower as normal. Yes the dye runs over your body but it's only on there for fractions of seconds before the shower water washes it off.

Lochnessgiraffe · 10/07/2022 10:39

Unfortunately it's a rainfall shower which is wonderful but just not for this. I think I'll just have a shower. I also need to do dds roots today so I'll use the kitchen sink for her as I don't think she'll get all the dye out without help. Might need to buy a plug in Bath shower or just both of us find a hairdressers

I've always just had a shower when I've used box dyes, the water soon washes it off you. I hate kneeling and sticking my head over the bath.
