Low cut dresses!

My 17 year old is a size 12. She is quite modest, hoodies and jeans girl, but occasionally needs to wear a dress and of course better in hotter weather!
Thing is, she's about a 34B, and all the dresses she tries on are too low cut. She wears a crop top type thing, which is higher on the chest than a bra.
We have just bought one from Monsoon, I bought her one from Joules and she was given one from Next. All require a little stitch which is not always good with the style. I admit these are V necks, but so many dresses seem to have this neckline.
Any suggestions? She doesn't want anything too bright, and would prefer to try on before she buys. Not too short either. Budget up to £75.
Also if any clothing manufacturers are checking in - please have some necklines higher up!

Could you shorten the dress straps a little to bring the neckline higher?

Totally with you! Might be a tough sell to a 17 yr old but I wear M&S cool comfort slips under dresses. They are reversible to have either a straight neckline or a gentle V . Saves me worrying about having too much cleavage on show with the added bonus of helping the dress hang better/not cling.

Oh good tip @CovIneedanamechange ! She would rather not add another layer in this weather but might be helpful for the dresses she already has.
These dresses have short sleeves or if sleeveless not the strappy kind @Mushroomlady.

Can’t you look for styles with the higher neckline? A v-neck from those shops doesn’t sound particularly fashionable for a 17 year old, if you look on asos for round neck dresses there are absolutely hundreds

This is the first page of summer dresses on asos - all quite high necklines and modest hemlines too

Ooo I like the white one - she's looking for one of those.
Actually monsoon one is lovely (pic attached). So many of those cut straight across look like she's about to go milk some cows!
Thanks people.

Trouble is the options are limited so people buy and make do or adjust in some way. Very frustrating. I myself wear two of my tops back to front because I have long hair so it hides the v neck at the back and allows the curved back to sit well on my front!

Other issue is how see thru they are! She found a pretty white one at Monsoon but you could even see her mole near her waist!

Sorry I cannot offer any other suggestions, but agree with the sentiments. UK clothing retailing is a disgrace in my opinion, especially thin clothing.

If she’s a size 12 she’s unlikely to be a 34B. A 32C or 30D is more likely and she may find that a smooth tshirt style bra makes her feel more secure and holds her breasts in a position that is more likely to suit the dress necklines.

Lookingoutside · 08/07/2022 11:17

Would she consider a proper bra?
