hello

i am at the peri menopause stage and have started to loose my hair. i am giving the absolute collagen a go - less than a week in. it's expensive and tastes awful but i am hoping it may help my hair and nails.

has any one else used it? am i being daft in hoping for a miracle?

Didn't do a think for me. They've got amazing PR though. Sadly it suckered me in.

AgathaBrazen · 05/07/2022 22:54

Same. Didn't do a thing for me either. Total waste of money.

Penguintears · 05/07/2022 22:58

I don't know if this is true but I've previously had breast cancer and read that I should avoid collagen due to cancer risk. I can't remember where I read it but might be worth researching?

WhenIgrowolder · 05/07/2022 23:02

I tried this for 6 months - couldn't notice any difference at all . Waste of money!

zeddybrek · 05/07/2022 23:07

I just couldn't get over the fishy taste. I tried all the flavours. I have been taking it intermittently for about 6 weeks with no difference. But really the taste is just so bad. It makes me gag.

wwyd2021medicine · 05/07/2022 23:19

It's broken down into amino acids like other proteins in the gut

IveNameChangedAgain2020 · 05/07/2022 23:53

I've been taking AC for a while now. Hasn't done anything for my hair and nails, but I notice my skin and face does look visibly older when I don't take it

HundredMilesAnHour · 06/07/2022 00:52

I'm another one who tried it but the only difference was to my bank account.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/07/2022 09:16

Wouldn’t you be better off discussing HRT with your dr or getting your thyroid/iron levels checked?

TopSec · 06/07/2022 10:48

I have been using AC for over a year now and can see a difference. However, I do think it is a long term trial rather than weeks. Definitely my skin and nails saw an improvement, but not sure about my hair. I forgot to take my AC on holiday a few weeks ago and saw a huge difference by not taking it just for that 2 weeks. I think its one of those things that you don't realise if its doing any good until you stop taking it - my opinion only of course. I am sure it doesn't work for everyone. I am also on HRT - maybe this helps also

Maybe a different thread, but I too started to lose all my hair - I think it was a combination of age (I am 67) and Covid. I did a lot of research and, as a result stopped using shampoo. I wash my hair most days but use only conditioner, massaging it thoroughly for a few minutes and then, once a week, I use a detox shampoo to get rid of any build-up and, I have to say (as has my hairdresser) that my hair has never been in such good condition and you can visibly see the new hair growing where it was once very thin. I hope that helps.

Very interesting - thank you for posting this.

ShirleyJackson · 08/07/2022 19:06

It gave me horrendous heartburn. That was the only physical difference I could detect.

Mycatsgoldtooth · 08/07/2022 19:08

I’ve got two weeks supply I will give you if you want? The texture was 🤢 so I only drank two
Skin and me has made an epic difference to my face and taking biotin has regrown my terrible pp hair loss.

When I started hrt my hair started growing back. I have also wondered if taking extra b12 helped too - my levels were ok in the nhs but would be treated in Japan. But the hrt by far did more for hair gain than anything else. (I'm on good level of thyroxine too.)

Superdoopas · 09/07/2022 13:06

Also check yr thyroid .. i lost hair ( lots ) until diagnosed .

WarriorN · 09/07/2022 23:59

Yes that can also definitely be a factor. I was on a good level of thyroxine and it was low oestrogen.

@bgsl123 stop spamming zombie threads with adverts please

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/01/2023 17:33

For £50 a month I’d want to look 19 again, bollocks to soft skin I can put moisturiser on for a few quid.

Wagsandclaws · 12/01/2023 18:38

I couldn't notice any difference op,

I'm now on hrt and everything looks a lot better!

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 12/01/2023 18:46

OP, I'm also peri and hair loss and recent craggy looking face/sudden flippin eye excema had me on the verge of starting collagen. I know it's vain but it's been getting me down. I did my research and spoke to friends taking various brands including the one you mention and they all rave about it (I wonder if there's a bit of persuading yourself it's good when it costs so much).

Anyhoo after reading and chatting on a few threads here I decided to get my blood tested as I have hypothyroidism so that may need tweaking. Turns out thyroid fine but I'm low on ferritin which may be causing the hair thing (also on HRT).

So started ferrous sulphate today (1 a day) and I'll see if that's making a difference,

Haven't totally ruled out collagen yet but yeah, I'm glad I checked for underlying issues. Doc said if needed they can test again in a few months for other poss deficiencies.

MH100 · 04/08/2023 20:46

Don’t bother, there is A LOT of good competition out there and this Absolute Collagen is basically very well marketed. That’s it.
I took it for 4 months and there is no difference. My husband took it for 6 months and nothing. And the taste is ABSOLUTELY disgusting - especially the male one.
I really and truly suggest just eating very low sugar/carbs and intermittent fasting. It will transform your skin! I have and still am testing this and seeing beautiful results. My sisters and mum are seeing the same results. But no one will tell you this because it’s FREE!!!
