Emerald ring

I got engaged as a student many years ago. I love green & would have loved an emerald ring but we couldn’t afford it. I love my engagement ring and am not looking for a replacement but my husband has offered to by me an emerald ring for our silver wedding anniversary. Budget £1000 - £1200. Any suggestions as to where to look?

Nothing connected to me, but LOVE their stuff. Have a link at "minkajewels" on Insta 🥰

What style do you like?

You'll get more for your money for a secondhand / vintage ring.

Susannah King London - she does handmade rings and some absolutely beautiful ones including emeralds. She opens commissions and would make an incredible one!

I’m open minded when it comes to style but I think I’m envisaging an emerald flanked by diamonds or a small diamond cluster.

If you’re anywhere near London, go to Hatton Garden (or the jewellery quarter in Bham is similar I think).

Sqeebling · 03/07/2022 00:17

Get one made by a jewellers you like look of

Luckingfovely · 03/07/2022 00:31

Whatever you do, don't buy it from a high street jeweller. It will be marked up by thousands of percent. Search online and find the style you want, then have it made / copied by a local jeweller or in one of the jewel quarters if you can get to them.

Also - if you want any useful advice - what style do you like? Modern, antique, art deco, etc etc?

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 03/07/2022 00:31

Antique shops! I got a ruby ring for £110 that would have cost at least £500 new.

spongedog · 03/07/2022 00:35

I have an emerald ring! Love them to bits. But there are synthetic ones, and emeralds often have cracks (inside) and chip easily. I always take mine off when I wash my hands as they should not get wet. So I believe they are harder to manage than a standard diamond. (Still love mine!)

Natural emeralds are $$$$. I bought one Similar to what you want in 2007 for 4K and chipped it in a brick wall. Insurance just gave me cash as replacement was about 7k a couple of years later. Have a look at lab emeralds to start

EverySockIsOdd · 03/07/2022 01:24

Those are so cloudy though @JaceLancs. Fine for an everyday ring but for something special, you need a special stone. Obviously with emeralds at this price loint that's not easy. I think OP I would look to buy a really good stone in the cut you want, then find a good goldsmith to make a ring how you want it. You'll het exactly what you want that way and better quality overall I think, as you can find a stone from many good dealers online and then you will only pay the markup on the actual metalwork.

Mercurial123 · 03/07/2022 05:42

I bought a tsavorite, darker than emerald but with less inclusions and a "stronger" stone also cheaper.

BurrosTail · 03/07/2022 07:44

gemporia.com has some amazing high end and every day wear emeralds.

boxcar · 06/07/2022 07:49

Thanks all. I’m drawn to this: aardvarkjewellery.com/product/rings/wedding-engagement/engagement-rings/emerald-and-diamond-engagement-ring-art-deco-1920s-inspired-thin-petite-band-unique-ring-for-her/ It’s a lab grown emerald but still very pretty. I like the Fenton ones but what I like and what we can afford at the moment don’t match.

eatsleepswimdive · 06/07/2022 08:45

The Fenton ones are amazing, much nicer than any of the other ones linked to. I also like the one you've been drawn to
