My thumb nails split vertically whenever they grow to over the nail bed. Could fake nails over the top help to cure them?

No it will definitely make them worse. I'd keep them short and paint them with normal polish. Not gel as that will make them worse too. You might be low on calcium.

thank you x

My nails have been stronger with gel polish. Having a strong polish on seems to reinforce them. My polish is Orly which has proteins etc in. Its not cheap but I've noticed an improvement

Biotin will help with nail issues.

I had this. I was low on vitamins. Or at least, once I took vitamin d things slowly improved. Have you had kids recently, since this was definitely linked for me! Solution meantime is to file the nail as close as you can to avoid it catching.
I tried a fake nail, it just came off and was a waste of time. Biotin didn’t actually make any difference for me either. But in general I think improving diet (eg with supplements if you can’t eat better/get the missing vits !) is the solution. Good luck.

I just read this as bitcoin! I thought it was crypto marketing (as in it would solve all op’s troubles) 😂

Mavala Nailactin cream sorted this issue for me.

My thumb nail used to do this all the time. Biotin ( takes months before you notice a difference) and nail glue sorted it out. I kept the glue over the split until it had completely grown out.
