Backpack for city break - hand luggage flight

ELM8 · 30/06/2022 11:12

I'm on the lookout for a backpack for a 3 day city break. We are flying (hand luggage only) so looking for something that is within easyJet guidelines and easy to carry around especially on the last day when we will be sightseeing before an evening flight, but also makes efficient use of space.

Eyeing up the Nordace Siena which seems to have good reviews - has anyone here got this?

Any other recommendations welcome, I'll have an iPad, phone, clothes, purse, straighteners and maybe a spare pair of shoes plus clothes/undies...

Thanks wise mumsnetters Grin

I have one of these bags and you won't get all of that in there. Take out the shoes and depending on amount of clothing you might. I would say you can get one outfit (trousers, top, thin jumper) in but that leaves not much room for other stuff. Why not look at the osprey or north face style duffels? They have rucksack straps, comfy and easily hand luggage. Not as stylish mind.

Something like this?

Large Travel Backpack Women, Carry On Backpack Men,Hiking Backpack Waterproof Outdoor Sports Rucksack Casual Daypack School Bag Fit 14 Inch Laptop with USB Charging Port Shoes Compartment amzn.eu/d/9yAvEyG

I like the suitcase style opening of one of the pockets. Much easier to pack.

Oh and I liked the nordace ones too, but then I saw them in the flesh and they look much less sleek in real life. I wasn't impressed tbh, but don't know anything about the actual quality

ELM8 · 30/06/2022 14:20

Ah yes I was looking at the Amazon one actually, some of the reviews worried me about space but sounds like the Nordace one might be similar and interesting on the quality issue.. surprised at that price!!

One pair of trainers for everything might be needed so no need to pack shoes...

Osprey one definitely looks more practical but I was hoping for something a bit less "festival" Blush

I've had another look at the Amazon one and think I'll go with that... I was mainly liking the Nordace because it looked a bit nicer but if that's not the case in the flesh I'll save my money!

Tbh once I've stuffed whatever bag to the brim it will probably take away from the aesthetics anyway Grin

I use a Jack Wolfskin hiking backpack with packaging cubes.

If fitted properly, you won't even notice the weight.

Jofergo · 30/06/2022 17:11

I've got an Osprey Fairview and don't like it.

The laptop pocket is on the front and it makes it difficult to pack as the contents need to be really fit for your laptop to move in and out easily. Other similar rucksacks have the pocked on the back which looks like it will work better.

Second packing cube suggestion - eagle creek or muji good.

ELM8 · 30/06/2022 17:14

I hadn't even considered packing cubes - good tip!

I have a Nordace Siena but not used it yet. A friend said it was great and could get 5 days worth of clothes/toiletries in it.
