I've finalised my skincare routine

...It has taken me about a YEAR, many Dr Sam Bunting youtube videos and trial and error. I might get it laminated. I'm 39, hardly any fine lines but a tendency to blocked pores. And I just can't tolerate tretinoin. Just thought I would share :-) Any comments welcome.

AM
In shower: CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
Cetaphil Daily Defence SPF50

PM
Eye make up remover
La Roche Posay Tolerance on a cotton wool pad
Paula's Choice BHA 2% salicylic acid
Azelaic acid (on prescription)

I also dot on a little Vaniqua cream on the Chin Bristles of my username AM and PM.

La Roche Posay Tolerance is the cream cleanser btw.

In fact my main skin concern is general redness.

I'm afraid I have no comments on your regime as mine consists of some Simple cleanser on a pad snd some moisturiser slapped on if I remember Grin

But how did you come to having this routine if you don't mind me asking? Was it just Google/tutorial videos/trial and error?

MsOllie · 27/06/2022 22:20

It does take a while! I've finalised mine now too

ChinBristles · 27/06/2022 22:22

@tryingtofindmyself I became obsessed with Dr Dray and Dr Sam Bunting on youtube! And yeah, bought a few thing from Boots and kept notes on what worked!

@MsOllie exciting! Will you share? Getting yours laminated?!

Elemental herbology cell something serum (CBA standing up to check the name!)
Alpha H essential hydration cream

PM

Soap and glory peaches and cream or Clinique take the day off
Deviant exfoliating toner if I'm not using tret
Murad revitalixir if not using tret
Skin and me
Alpha H cream again

devildeepbluesea · 27/06/2022 22:27

Lidl or Tesco facial scrub in the shower.
a bit of vitC serum if I remember
moisturiser.

I’ve tried the painstaking skincare thing. It doesn’t work and anyway I don’t have the patience for it.

Oceanus · 27/06/2022 22:32

It sounds great to me! Might try the Cetaphil Daily Defence SPF50! I'm always looking for the best SPF for me! And Azelaic acid's on the list of things to try too, I've heard fab things here!
When you tried the Tretinoin, where you using the salycilic acid at the same same? It's not supposed to go with ACNE stuff. Could that be it?🤔

doadeer · 27/06/2022 22:32

It's nice when you nail it.

I have some holy grail products too, different to yours but I do like the Dr Sam tinted Spf.

I absolutely love my skin, haven't worn make up in ages and I feel glowing.

It's not a chore for me I find it very satisfying and relaxing.

(I also am big La Roche Posay fan!)

Oceanus · 27/06/2022 22:33

Having read the others I miss Boots and I miss Soap and Glory too! I loved the smell!

TattiePants · 27/06/2022 22:35

It’s taken me a while to find a routine that I’m happy with. The skin care thread on here has been most helpful, as has Nadine Baggot’s videos. Mine is:

AM
Cosrx good morning cleanser
Geek & Gorgeous C Glow (vit C)
Cerave PM moisturiser (usually only in winter)
Either LRP Anthelios or Biore Watery Essence (both SPF50)

PM
Cleansing balm / oil (any)
Cerave Hydrating Cleanser
Dermatica Tret or
Paula’s Choice BHA
Cerave PM moisturiser

MissBPotter · 27/06/2022 22:45

I’m currently doing this, not sure it’s totally nailed but I quite like it at the moment.

AM
in shower, sanctuary face wash
hyaluronic acid serum by la roche posay
vit e mist
vit e moisturizer
elemis pro collagen eye
Ultra sun 30 spf

PM
elemis pro collagen cleansing balm
hyluronic acid serum again
kiels retinol
camelia oil (fushi)
elemis pro collagen overnight matrix
also hand cream and sometimes foot cream too!

That seems like a lot but it’s really my only ‘self care’ thing and I quite enjoy it. I have neglected myself a lot and have three kids and I’m 38 and definitely have some fine lines, especially no 11 on forehead. I feel like all this is helping a bit though.

ChinBristles · 27/06/2022 22:48

@Oceanus good thinking but nope, I was using 0.025 tretinoin and absolutely no other actives. Not every night and buffering with moisturiser. Just couldn't bear it. No matter what I did, it would always end up with red scaly skin. Inc eyelids and neck - I think it moved around during the night. I've decided that as my main issue is redness rather than lines, I will just stick to SPF and azelaic.

I do honestly feel like I'm having an award ceremony - and the award for Chin Bristles' chosen SPF goes to....
Funny how I've got like 1 product each from most of the main popular ranges.

My favourite for my hands and feet is defo Eucerin Urea moisturiser.
And my chosen hair products are Faith in Nature.
And my favourite lipbalm is Australian Gold PawPaw and I have tried them ALL! I literally have a list of "yes" and "no".

OP posts:
ChinBristles · 03/07/2022 19:30

Slight update - I think I now prefer Eucerin Cleansing Gel to CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser.

And when I'm using a non-SPF moisturiser, I will make it Cetaphil Moisturising Cream as it contains niacidimide. (I had previously used CeraVe's equivalent but it's slightly more expensive).
