Help me feel better about being overweight and having to dress for an event

I need tips!

I'm very overweight at 16 stone. I have lost 2 stone since February but still have a long way to go.

We have our works summer do at the races next week and I am panicking as I've not had to dress up for a long time and feel awfully. I want to go as I'm sure it will be a nice day out with my colleagues but just know I'll feel awful compared to my slim colleagues.

I know I can't lose a lot of weight in that time but any tips for making me feel less horrible. I've bought three different dresses to try on and they are all quite modest but dressy but just want to boost my confidence a bit.

In my heart I know I've done well to lose 2 stone but I still feel like I've got such a mountain to climb. I just don't want this experience to make me feel worse.

Hi OP, I totally get it and in a similar boat of having a good loss but have a long way to go. Firstly well done on your amazing loss! Secondly I would go for something you feel comfortable and nice in. I would really recommend these brilliant knicks from M&S (am currently wearing!) they have good support but not restrictive or uncomfortable at all like a lot of shapewear can feel, am happy wearing them as ‘normal’ everyday knick’s when I want just more a bit more support than regular cotton briefs and the look of a flatter tum (ie in jeans or leggings). I have found Evans pretty good and bought a few summer things from them recently and have been happy with the shape, sizing and quality! I hope that helps 🙂 x

Oh thank you @Mumtumtastic - I love control pants! I have a full body Spanx suit it's a paint when going to the loo. These pants look ideal!

If I were you I would focus on things that make you feel good instead of fretting about your weight - you have done amazingly losing two stone! So things like:

get nails/feet done (pedicure if open toe shoes) or get some lovely polish and do it yourself

wear your favourite perfume

make sure you have time to do nice hair and makeup, or if budget/time allows go to a salon and have makeup/blow dry. An eyebrow shape and tint too can be an instant boost to your face

I hope you have a nice day

Choose some great accessories. Killer shoes and some stand-out earrings will take attention away from areas you're not happy with, and bring some attention to your face. Also, maybe choose a dress that highlights your best attribute, like cleavage or legs., or one that hugs the smallest part. Sometimes a higher waistline, just below the bust is your narrowest part if you have tummy or hips.

You've done incredibly to lose so much weight. Seconding wearing something comfy, maybe floaty and trying to relax into the day. No one will be judging you.

Meh I’m 16 stone too. I’d like to lose weight but my body doesn’t seem to agree.. just wear something you like and fuck everything else

Well done on loosing the weight!

Size doesn’t stop you looking gorgeous, and if they’re your colleagues, they know what you look like already. Get a gorgeous outfit, and you’ll probably get lots of nice comments about how good you look, because you’ve lost two stone. Go girl and have fun!
