If you had plantar fasciitis and would be on your feet all day, what shoes would you wear with this dress?

I'll be wearing it with a silk knit burnt orange cardigan. It's a semi-informal garden party to celebrate someone's marriage - not a wedding as such.

I have comfy walking sandals that I can wear all day without pain, but they're strawberry pink and I think they would look awful. Sad Any ideas?

A wedge flatform sandal.

These from Birkenstock:

www.birkenstock.com/gb/mary-ring-buckle-natural-leather/maryringbuckle-pureleather-naturalleather-0-tpu-w_1578.html

They do several styles that might be suitable.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 27/06/2022 18:33

I'd also ask them if they could put a chair out - as the alternative is you sitting on the doorstep, grass or going home if it starts to rain, just as it would be for any older relatives, anyone with a running injury, somebody with a bad back...

White trainers from fit flop.

plantar fasciitis takes ages to get better - you just cannot wear heeled shoes, which make it worse.

alphasox · 27/06/2022 18:40

Have you seen Vionic shoes? They do all styles but with plantar fasciitis friendly support built in. I have awful pf too but I wear these for occasions

Either white trainers with orthotic inserts if you have them or try and find some with arch support, or flat Birkenstocks adjusted so the straps are snug over the arch of your foot and the sole doesn't flap as you walk, the single strap ones are no good.

greenacrylicpaint · 27/06/2022 18:43

trainers with good arch support
or those birkenstock (or similar footbed sandals)

agree with pp. take a camping stool so that you can sit down and rest.

I totally second Vionic Shoes for plantar fascitis, something like this could work with your dress:

I find these really good to add into any shoes you already have/buy. I haven't had PF for a couple of years since I've started supporting my arches with these.

Ecco Flowt and Corksphere are the best sandals I’ve ever had for my PF. I wear them every year all the way from April to October pretty much!

I have Corksphere sandals in white and Flowt in other colours incl black, but would personally wear the white ones with that dress.

They’re not cheap but have been worth every penny for me - true to size, comfortable and supportive, with lots of bounce/shock absorption for poor delicate heels, as well as pretty nice to look at. A quick look shows they’re not available from Ecco in white at the moment, but some third party retailers seem to have some sizes in white.

hope the party is lovely either way!

OhTinyBear · 27/06/2022 19:33

also, sitting for a bit and rolling my foot over a small spiky massage ball like this www.johnlewis.com/m-life-eco-spiky-fascia-yoga-ball-set/p5389587 helps me get through a long day too! In case you’ll have an opportunity.

PAFMO · 27/06/2022 20:00

Fitflop Rally trainers.
Cured my PF when orthotic inserts and Vionics didn't.
I buy a pair every year now.

PAFMO · 27/06/2022 20:00

I wear a lot of Ecco as well. Off to look at the sandals upthread!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/06/2022 20:25

I’d wear Birkies in a matching colour

AnnieSnap · 27/06/2022 20:50

I used to have PF and I swore by Fitflops. They do shoes as well as sandals and are amazingly supportive in all the right places.

Greensleeves · 27/06/2022 23:16

Ooh, lots of great recommendations, thank you Flowers

Off to look at them all!

I’d wear white sandals with an inch block heel with straps that go round the back of your heel and also around your ankle, to keep your ankles supported. Cushioning if possible.

or a wedge with similar ankle support.

greyinganddecaying · 28/06/2022 08:19

Heavenly feet shoes are amazingly comfortable- definitely worth a look

DottyDotAgain · 28/06/2022 08:23

Fitflop sandals - look good (well I think so!) and are brilliant for PF! I have PF and live in my Fitflop sandals all summer! Vionics are also brilliant for PF - I have Vionic slippers and couldn't function without them especially first thing in the morning.

SuperTea · 28/06/2022 08:25

Trainers

I've given up on sensible/comfortable shoes that attempt to be "appropriate" or stylish. They always end up frumpy. At least trainers aren't trying to be something they're not.

Anything that's halfway between comfortable and stylish won't be comfortable enough with PF anyway.
