I need a flight/beach bag.

Every one that I own is either heavy or cumbersome and gets ruined on a beach holiday.

Do you think it would look naff to carry a shopper/jute bag on the flight and use as a day/beach bag like the one linked below? There's nice patterned ones in all the supermarkets but i thought these looked good quality and sturdy:

I would be wary of taking a bag without a decent top fastening on the flight for practical reasons. A jute bag as a beach bag is fine, but personally I wouldn’t go for anything with an obvious Harrods logo if you’re concerned about naff.

MintJulia · 27/06/2022 16:59

I wouldn't choose one with a logo but Jute is fine. Can you get one with a strap closing it at the top.

I like soft bags, they are light and inexpensive so you don't have to worry about them, they make good pillows on a beach or in a park and they have plenty of room.

DurhamDurham · 27/06/2022 17:11

The logo makes the bag look tacky and I'd always prefer a bag which had a zip closure. So it's a no from me Smile

Bobnotpop · 27/06/2022 17:13

No

Hoppinggreen · 27/06/2022 17:16

Presumably if flying you will have passports etc. I would want a sealed top on a bag for that.
Also, if jute gets wet on the beach it will smell funny and get ruined

RandomQuest · 27/06/2022 17:19

You can’t close it to keep your important stuff safe and it’s a fabric that shouldn’t get wet- it’s totally impractical for both beach and travel so I’d only assume you’re all about the Harrods logo because there’s no other reason to use that bag!

KirstenBlest · 27/06/2022 17:26

No because logos are naff, it doesn't close at the top, and jute doesn't like getting wet and stains badly.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 27/06/2022 17:45

Agree with all the above - Jute smells like wet dog if it gets damp.

procrastinationstations · 27/06/2022 17:56

Right, so I need to rethink - no jute.

I take a small, proper cross body for passports etc, I was thinking just for water bottle, book and cardis etc.

Back to the drawing board.....

I thought the harrods one would be well made and I like the Contrasting strap.

I see lots of people using the Loewe or Christian Dior - then I looked up the price......

I'd like a neverfull but I haven't got the money for that - nor do I like to take my expensive stuff on holiday.

I'd like something well made and practical.

The harrods bag looks like a souvenir to me. Fine if that’s what you want. I wouldn’t take a bag without a zip on the plane. Arket do good quality bags for travel.

IvorCutler · 27/06/2022 18:25

Also good for the beach because they’re water repellent.

butterflyfox · 27/06/2022 18:42

A classic longchamps bag is your answer here Zips up for the plane and looks elegant. you can get it as wet and Sandy as you like in the beach and rinse it out in the shower when you get back to your room.

Purpleavocado · 27/06/2022 18:51

I don't have a problem with the logo but if you put it under a seat it could spill open, even if your valuables are in a cross body bag.

Seconded, always my go-to for holidays!

procrastinationstations · 27/06/2022 19:16

I have 3 longchamps but in dark colours - wanted something more summery

I'll be honest, I have a knackered old Neverfull that I use as a beach bag now. It's brilliant, wipe clean, holds a ton of stuff. If you don't mind a slightly battered one there's loads on Vinted.

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 27/06/2022 20:07

Vinted has colourful old Longchamps for not a lot.
