Aldi Lacura - anyone else not impressed?

Daydreamerinme · 26/06/2022 23:36

On the back of so many positive reviews I bought -
Original cleanser
Glow toner
Caviar Day & Night creams
Q10 serum

Of these I’d only buy the cleanser again. I have ordinary skin, nothing sensitive or special about it but after using the above x2 daily for nearly three months my skin just looks dull and lacklustre. The day cream takes longer to rub in and absorb and then my skin feels tacky to touch afterwards for a little while.

Sadly I’m not impressed and wondered if anyone else has been disappointed or it’s just me? 🤷‍♀️

I bought the lacura cavier day cream as it had great reviews, however it doesnt suit my skin as made my face feel tight and itchy, sadly i cant use it

NeedWineNow · 21/05/2024 16:36

I used to use L'Oreal Laser Renew day and night cream and then discovered Aldi Rejuvelate day and night creams. Loved them, and then they disappeared off the shelf as is usual with Aldi.

I was very pleased to see them back in store last year and snapped up two of the day cream and the same of the night cream. I was very disappointed with the day cream. The consistency had changed and it made my skin dry. The night cream isn't too bad but again the consistency has changed.

After a very bad reaction to another brand's serum (not Aldi) last week, on the recommendation of the pharmacist in Boots I have discovered the Calm and Restore range by Aveeno. A brilliant range which settled my skin literally overnight and one which I will be sticking to for the time being.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 21/05/2024 17:23

I've tried their versions of caviar cream and 8-hour cream, and a few others I think- hated them all! Glad I'm not the only one .

Darklane · 21/05/2024 20:16

The caviar ones make my skin red & sore but I like the hot cloth cleansers & the eyebrow pencil in blonde which comes with a handy sharpener. My branch rarely has things in though.

Smelly and makes my skin come out in a rash. If you read the ingredients it’s a big mix of chemicals.

As opposed to other skincare products that are made of…?

DayIntarnishedarmour · 21/05/2024 20:31

Their products and anything from Clinique are the only skincare I’ve ever been allergic to.

KirstenBlest · 21/05/2024 20:31

@LoobyDop , snake oil and fairy dust

DiscoBeat · 21/05/2024 20:38

I really love the hot cloth cleanser but haven't seen it recently so back to the Sanctuary one.

Almond oil, and water. Simple ingredients. No more skincare bullshit, no more rashes.

I agree @ElephantsFart Almond oil is great for skin. Do you use it as a cleanser and moisturizer? I have very sensitive skin and find that after a few days of use most skincare products (including Aldi Laura) cause skin redness and irritation for me!

ShoveItUpYourArseMargaret · 21/05/2024 23:17

I used to live Aldi specialbuy skincare however don’t buy it anymore ever since they removed the reviews from their website. I rely on reviews a lot to make informed choices about what I buy, I’m not prepared to gamble.

Ah yes, chemical-free water. My mistake.

LMMuffet · 22/05/2024 13:54

Me. Tried one of their moisturisers for a bit. It wasn’t that moisturising and seemed to make my skin extra sensitive. I chucked it out.

TheChosenTwo · 22/05/2024 13:56

My mum once bought me a moisturiser from Q10 (Aldi or Lidl, not sure which), it smelled just like Nivea cream in the big blue tub that I remembered my nan using in the 90’s - she probably used it before then too. It was like a thick cold cream. I decided against putting on my face and using it as a body moisturiser instead! Very thick and almost greasy feeling.

Snowfalling · 22/05/2024 15:33

I didn't like the rejevulate day cream. I would love to try the hot cloth cleanser though, but nothing I want is ever available. The rose oil seems to have a lot of hype, wonder if it's any good?

I use it to moisturise only but people use it to oil cleanse as well, sometimes mixing in a little Castor oil if they have naturally oily skin.

Now you’re embarrassing yourself @LoobyDop 😂

At no stage did I suggest that anything was chemical free - everything is made of chemicals!

Lacura moisturiser is objectively a “big mix of chemicals’’ as per my original post. According to the packaging there are almost 40:

Water
Octocrylene
Dimethicone
Glycerin
Ethylhexyl Salicylate
Dibutyl Adipate
Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane
Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid
Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate
Behenyl Alcohol
Cetearyl Alcohol
Sodium Hydroxide
Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil
Sorbitan Stearate
Propylene Glycol
Polysorbate 60
Carbomer
Acrylates/C10-30
Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer
Hydrolyzed Cucurbita Pepo Seedcake
Hydrolyzed 𝐒𝐨𝐲 Protein
Faex Extract
Retinyl Palmitate
Tocopherol
Alcohol Denat
Tetrasodium Edta
Parfum
Linalool
Limonene
Benzyl Alcohol
Geraniol
Phenoxyethanol
Caprylyl Glycol
Ethylhexylglycerin
Sodium Benzoate
Ci 15985
Ci 47005.

In contrast, the almond oil I now use contains just 5 chemicals. None of them irritate my skin. It’s great 😊

oleic acid (68%) (C18:1)
stearic acid (C18:0)
linoleic acid (C18:2)
palmitoleic acid (C16:1)
palmitic acid (C16:0)

Thanks @ElephantsFart do you just use water to clean your skin? I have quite dry skin so I'll give the castor oil a miss! 🙂

Peanutbutterfan · 23/05/2024 10:08

I’ve never been able to get hold of many of the Lacura dupes but the day cream I had left a white film on my face & started peeling in certain areas.
In response to a pp I also really rate Superdrug particularly their Vitamin E & Naturally Radiant ranges.

@Snowfalling The rose oil irritated my eyes and skin, it smelt really nice though! Lots of people do like it so maybe it's just my fussy skin reacting!

If you know perfectly well that nothing is free from chemicals, you know that your comment was foolish. That’s not on me.

KirstenBlest · 23/05/2024 11:37

I agree with @LoobyDop .
I agree to some extent about chemicals and do worry about all the gunk we are using, but I'm a soap and water kind of person.

I find the Cien stuff fine. It's nice enough for the price.

Exhibit A, My original post:

ElephantsFart · 27/06/2022 22:00

Smelly and makes my skin come out in a rash. If you read the ingredients it’s a big mix of chemicals.

How is this post foolish?

Aldi Lacura moisturiser contains almost 40 chemicals, one or several of which cause a rash on my skin. Like many with sensitive skin, I cannot identify which component of this complex mixture is problematic. Rather than risk further rashes and waste more cash, I stick with simpler products that work.

Others who have similarly sensitive skin might want to take heed of this, hence my post.

Do you work in skincare? ..why do you care so much that you would hurl baseless insults at a stranger on an internet forum? 🤷‍♀️

DayIntarnishedarmour · 23/05/2024 18:35

SoapCollecter. Not sure if it’s your fussy skin. I’m in my 60s and the only products that I’ve ever reacted to are Lacura stuff and Clinique’s.
