Outfit for funeral

I'm going to a funeral in a few weeks, for someone who had very clear ideas on what they wanted and I know that guests being well dressed is something she wanted very much.

I don't have loads of money, budget around £100. I would like a dress and a longline lightweight jacket as it's summer. I am 5ft 8, size 16, hourglass figure, so linen and things seem to look shit on me. If it fits my waist, it doesnt fit my boobs or hips. If it fits those, it's miles too big on the waist. I am Blonde with blue eyes. I don't want to look washed out, don't want to look like a bin bag tied round the middle, don't want to look like I rolled out of primark. I don't know if black is what's required in full or whether a black jacket would suffice. Would prefer no patterned fabrics.

Please help. I want to look elegant- I know she would have approved massively of that

If you don’t want to wear black, can you wear navy? Or a black skirt or trousers, white/plain top, and then black jacket?

Sorry for your loss too

I have, unfortunately, attended three funerals recently. What I would say was that most women didn't wear black, but smartish clothes that weren't bright.

All the men wore suits though.

Agree many don't wear black. If you have a suit wear that. I don't think it has to be dark either, just not a really bright colour.

Find out if it's black, if not pick smart clothes that are subdued in colour.

If it's black stick to mostly black but can have patterns eg small flowers

Thanks everyone, some great suggestions here. I will definitely be going for a plain, dark colour but I do feel that the recently departed would have specified black. She was very traditional. I would hope that i will find out very soon, because I need to buy something for it.
