Sleep bonnets for bleached hair

Hi

i have been reading about silk pillowcases and bonnets being good for hair. I know Black women have used bonnets for ages to protect their hair and it seems it’s good for all hair.

Mine is bleached and getting a bit damaged and breaking, so wondered if a pillow or bonnet would help and if it needs to be silk as that’s expensive.

Anyone with bleached hair tried this ?

thanks

I'd like to know this too re my hair extensions. I have terrible bed hair...need to go under shower every day even although I only wash it every 3rd day.

I have one that I used when I had bleached hair, it’s from silke London. It did the job and was comfortable

Not very chic looking are they? Kind of a Hilda Ogden look.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/06/2022 20:24

I like them 🤷🏻‍♀️ Maybe black women are on to something.

Yes they really do help. I have wavy hair and put my hair in a bonnet to sleep. What I look like wearing it is irrelevant as I'm going to bed in it.

OP, I just found a cheapish one on Amazon.

Thanks everyone.
silk is quite pricey, has anyone used satin ones . Are they as good ?

Do you use satin or silk ?

Kitsch do some satin ones. I use the satin pillowcases though as don’t like the feel of the bonnet, I’m really restless sleeper so think that why.

TheFabledSnake · 28/06/2022 21:04

I just checked again and it's satin. Was about £8. I have a routine with mine for my hair type, I kind of flip my hair up and tie it very loosely, then bend over to fit the hair into it so it's not squashed in a particular way

TheFabledSnake · 28/06/2022 21:09

Also my hair is bleached to fuck and it doesn't look half as bad as it should since I use a bonnet lol

SushiShopSearch · 29/06/2022 13:13

@Chocolatecoatedkettlebell how do you wash yours? It says dry clean only. I'd never think of dry cleaning silk. Use silk pillowcases (John Lewis) and they go in the washing machine at 40.

I don't have bleached hair, but long wavy hair. I mostly use a silk hair bonnet/turban (from M &S) but my hair is very long and it's a bit of a squeeze to get it all in. Also a Cantu satin bonnet, which is possibly just as good - it has a band fitting which makes it less likely to slip off during the night.

I also use silk pillowcases.

ArabeI · 29/06/2022 14:38

Also try silk scrunchies if you need to tie your hair back @MoriaRoseForever

I recommend Slip silk brand , though they do stretch over time (I'm at the point of considering replacing the elastic on some). Though satin would probably do the job. I'd also oil the ends of your hair, and avoid heat, if it's breaking.

I just use the hand wash cycle on my mashing with all my hush clothes that I don’t trust on a normal cycle

My hair is leached and heat damaged. I used to have a satin pillowcase, recently changed it to a silk one and wear a silk bonnet to bed. Tbh I've not noticed a particular difference but by all accounts they're meant to be good so I'll continue just incase.
I've also just bought a silk scrunchie to wear around the house aswell.

SushiShopSearch · 07/07/2022 14:09

So I bought a £12.99 silk sleeping bonnet from Amazon (Oropy Emmet) and have to say it's made a big difference to my soft and fine hair. It's comfy to wear too. Have just sent away for a second one so I can rotate and wash.

MoriaRoseForever · 07/07/2022 16:06

Think i'll give a satin pillowcase a go. Thanks.
