Does all good vitamin c smell?

I know there's like one type of vitamin c that's meant to be best in treatments. Does it always smell? Or am I using the cheap stuff instead? I can't stand the smell.

I’ve wondered this!!! Smells like fish to me?

WellThatsMeScrewed · 25/06/2022 21:59

I thought I had got an ‘off’ batch

I've got vichy which has ASCORBIC ACID in. Is that the right stuff? Why does it stink?!!

I'd assumed it should smell of oranges haha but yeah it's a weird smell.

I've got the garden of wisdom vitamin c and ferulic acid serum. Doesn't smell very much, but I've not tried other ones to compare.

I had a vitamin c serum from Beauty Pie and the smell was awful, it reminded me of smoky bacon crisps. Had to bin it in the end 😁

Oskia capsules smell lovely and so does medik8 - those are the two I use. Tried the ordinary but I didn't like the smell.

PAFMO · 25/06/2022 22:11

L-Ascorbic is the best one, yes.
Most vit Cs have a faint metallic twang to them- that gets stronger as it starts to deteriorate. Vit C has a pretty short shelf life (you'll notice if it's a liquid one like Vichy it will start to go a deeper yellow/orange when it's on the turn)

Mrsjayy · 25/06/2022 22:14

Boots vit c range smells like berroca .

Mrsjayy · 25/06/2022 22:15

Are you all using industrial stuff😁

SandyWedges · 25/06/2022 22:20

@PAFMO I did notice it had a 2 month jar symbol so that makes sense now thank you! I'm wondering what to use once it's gone.

It says 15% on it. Is that high?

I think I saw on a Nadine Baggott video that 15% is optimum. To be effective, vit C needs to be at least 12% and up to 23% with 15% being good, but not likely to irritate. The Vichy LiftActiv one is my favourite of all the vit Cs I've tried. I keep it in the fridge which gives it a few weeks longer before it gets orange and twangy!
