How did she get these arms?

These pics are from my old fitness inspiration folder - from a few yrs ago. I just like her arms (so cropped everything else off!). They don't look muscular but not large/scrawny either.

Is this possible to replicate to any extent at all? I am a similar build but 44, and my upper arms are very loose and flabby. Is it possible to tone to get this, or would that bulk them up? I don't need to lose weight, so don't wish to achieve it that way i don't think. Any tips?
I think more muscular arms are preferred on MN but i would love mine to be this slim and smooth. It's prob just genetic isn't it?

Totally genetics. Mine used to look that in my 20s. Now after an extra stone in weight and 2 extra decades of age they look like this - a bit bigger but still reasonably slender. (Not toned - I've never done weights.)

BUT I carry almost all my weight from the hips down. I've literally never been able to buy knee high boots because I either can't get them on over my chunky calves, or if I can get them on I can't do them up. I can't wear skinny jeans because if I try on a size that would fit my waist, I can't pull them up past my knees. I often can't buy cropped trousers because the cropped part is too tight and digs into my lower calf. This is the same whether I'm at my lower weight or a higher one - I've at various times been a stone heavier and a stone lighter than I am now - and no matter how much weight-bearing exercise I've done.

So yep - can't argue with your genes.

I just wear a lot of wide leg trousers and maxi skirts!

These do look similar to the arms in my op, not bigger at all. I would love arms like this!

@Spindeluna Could you have lipodema? You sound similar to me. Apparently 10% of women have it.

@Phyllis321 having just done some googling- yes! I think almost certainly. Thanks so much, it is actually just weirdly reassuring that there is a name for it.

Spindeluna · 25/06/2022 17:24

Whoops sorry name change fail there @Phyllis321
