This bag in black or brown?

Normally go for brown but can't decide this time! My colours are anything, black, navy, khaki green, denim, blush, occasionally purple. Cooler colours. I think I am soft summer if that makes a difference.

I've been shopping and trying to decide what to keep/send back. Also got these fat face boots for £40 thinking ahead to autumn. Can you get away with wearing these with blue mom jeans or is it just too 90s?

Help me decide?

Brown, always brown.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/06/2022 12:13

Can't see a photo of the boots?

Justkoko · 22/06/2022 12:15

Boots...

My instinct is saying black bag, even though I usually go for brown as its softer. I used to have a tiny black leather buckled bag from gap in the late 90s or early 00s which I loved. Maybe I'm getting those vibes.

I prefer the black but generally lean towards a black bag so am biased, it fits in my wardrobe better. I think it looks more expensive than the brown in this instance. I think going with instinct is also best.

Squiblet · 22/06/2022 12:40

Years ago I had the same dilemma. Ended up buying my dream bag in brown rather than black - and have regretted it ever since. The brown looks so wrong with a black or navy coat. I say go with black!

Justkoko · 22/06/2022 12:43

What do you make of the boots? I'm moving to looser jeans so think I'd have to wear them rolled? Will they look daft? Are hiker type boots still going to look good this winter?

fantasmasgoria1 · 22/06/2022 12:58

Always black. It goes with everything.

FruitFlies · 22/06/2022 13:05

I love brown and navy combo. I think black and navy look like the navy is a faded washed out black.
black, navy, khaki green, denim all go with the brown.
Blush pink and purple go with black.
The boots need a black bag if you're wearing them together and they are a bit 90s grunge sorry!

GuybrushT · 23/06/2022 14:03

I have those boots in brown and love them! Not sure about with looser jeans though... I wear mine with skirts/dresses. I normally like brown, but I actually think that bag looks really good in the black.

Elfbeth · 23/06/2022 14:14

my instinct was brown before seeing the pics but think that bag looks better in black.

Bonus that it goes with the boots! 👍🏻

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 23/06/2022 15:40

Black but I wouldn't buy a bag from fat face again. I've had a couple that broke very easily

bloodyplanes · 23/06/2022 16:00

The black

Justkoko · 23/06/2022 16:45

To be honest I've had leather bags from fat face before snd always found them to be really good quality.
I think its going to be black. I fancy a change.

I prefer this one in black

Arrivederla · 23/06/2022 16:50

The bag looks great in both colours but I'm guessing you don't wear much black if you are a soft summer, so the brown one might be more useful?

Justkoko · 23/06/2022 17:58

I do wear quite a bit of black but in very matte washed type fabrics generally so it has that dusty effect. This bag is lovely soft matte leather so it has a softer sheen. I think it works.

Just to throw out another opinion, I think that bag is hideous Blush

wetpebbles · 23/06/2022 18:17

Prefer the black soft and matt, whereas the brown is shiny and the colour isn't quite right

Is it really? I though it was a bit like saddlebag/Satchel style. What does a nice bag look like then?

ImAvingOops · 23/06/2022 19:33

Its subjective whether or not it's a nice bag. What matters is whether you like it and whether it fills a gap in your wardrobe, so would get use out of it.
I think black, so it would go with the boots. You are also more likely to use it if you already have brown bags.

grimblesome · 23/06/2022 19:46

It is really subjective. It just looks really dated to me, not very chic. . I think the boots are quite cool, a pared back version of the heeled hiking boots that have been very popular the last few winters. The bag just jars with them. The top bit is the problem (circled in photo) - if the straps just attached to the main pouch bit it would be fine. The flat bit above the pouch is the problem.

If it has to be fat face then the Kingston Bag, Paris Tote and Camilla Satchel are nicer.

Justkoko · 24/06/2022 00:17

See I quite like the bit you've circled because it will sit flat as a cross body bag. I actually got the Kingston to look at too. It is lovely, but I was concerned about wear on the suede and colour transfer. Paris tote is a nice looking bag though too smart for my everyday. I'm a jeans kind of person. The Satchel is also lovely but could imagine it flopping around as I walk. Like it won't just sit right.

If the Paris tote had longer handles that would go over your shoulder ten maybe. I loved one called the petite parisien which was mentioned on here once, but it about £200 so not in budget. Its a very simple style in good leather.

Hmm. You have got me thinking tbh. I'm between a tote and a smaller everyday bag. I am quite casual so wouldn't ever choose a very structured sharp handbag. Nor anything designer.
I lived that suede tote but concerned about the colour rubbing off on other things, plus suede tends yo be trickier to care for.
I'm now wondering about a square camera type bag, with a nice wide strap, or even a round bag. Just something that could be at home dressed up or down.
Something that still looks fresh but will age well. A little bit timeless. I bought a bag from ff a while back but am putting it on ebay because I didn't feel it was 'fresh' if that makes sense,it was just a bit meh. Certainly didn't feel stylish with it.
Suggestions are very welcome!

Sorry, I don't mean to diss your style. I do think a simple camera bag is quite timeless as well as being functional and you can change the strap if you want to freshen it up. Some ideas:
