What do you wear to smart workplace if you normally live in jeans?

Struggling a bit as I'm fussy and find a lot of things uncomfortable.

I hate polyester and I also find most work trousers really tight on the waist band even when they fit properly! I need a bit of stretch on the waist band but also something breathable, like cotton...but also smart...

Jeans are great as they're usually cotton with a bit of stretch.

Maybe I just need to find a new job where I can wear jeans 😁

I have found M and S pretty good for work trousers. I have these wide leg trousers in black with an elasticated waist that look really smart, and are really comfortable.

Wolfcub · 19/06/2022 12:58

Jersey dress, snag tights, cardi

Jofergo · 19/06/2022 14:36

What do the blokes wear? If new city relaxed casual (chinos/ shirts) can you copy and wear chinos too?

I wear chinos/ jersey top/ blazer/ loafers a lot.

If chinos aren't smart enough start looking for jersey dresses! Seasalt are good.

BeHappyItIsEasier · 19/06/2022 14:40

Chinos would be fine I think, just not jeans.

Men tend to wear jackets and ties but not a full suit.

Dresses - so much easier.

BeHappyItIsEasier · 19/06/2022 14:43

I do have a few dresses, but I normally need tights which I find uncomfortable too!

I find most tights uncomfortable, but have been converted to snag tights, which aren't.

BeHappyItIsEasier · 19/06/2022 14:45

I have snags and they are a lot better. They're the only tights I will wear. But I'd still like an alternative. Tights everyday is not for me.

How about some smart jeggings ,boohoo and asks have loads I've recently got some myself.

Inthesameboatatmo · 19/06/2022 14:51

Asos*

BeHappyItIsEasier · 19/06/2022 15:00

Yeah, if I could find cotton tregging type things maybe? A lot of them seem to be polyester though.

Maybe chinos with a bit of stretch are the thing

I live in jeans outside of work and live in dresses for work. They're so comfy and very forgiving/flattering.

TizerorFizz · 19/06/2022 15:45

Not clingy Treggings! They are never smart.

My DD buys suit trousers from LK Bennet. They are beautifully cut. Then ring the changes with patterned blouses. Massimo Dutti has great suits too. You need to play around with sizes but their trousers snd jackets look great. I also think M&S have good budget lines but watch the material. I do find their cotton chinos fantastic at the moment, £25 and way classier then that. They look good with a patterned shirt.

Palavah · 19/06/2022 15:49

Dresses - with longer lengths in fashion do you really need tights? Add a suit jacket or blazer if you want to smarten up.
Makes footwear loads easier too.

Not treggings

TizerorFizz · 19/06/2022 17:28

I think midi dresses too. Virtually no kegs to see!

BatshitCrazyWoman · 19/06/2022 17:36

In the summer, I wear dresses, no tights. I don't even own work trousers, I don't think 🤔

BeHappyItIsEasier · 19/06/2022 17:37

My office is freezing for some reason! so would need tights, except on the very hottest days

I've got a couple of high waist hobbs trousers, that don't dig in. Otherwise I love dresses and jacket. I don't find tights uncomfortable though.

Cornishmumofone · 19/06/2022 18:39

I wear black Kin trousers from John Lewis. They're cut like jeans but aren't jeans

Cuddlywuddlies · 19/06/2022 18:42

I would love to wear dresses and tights but alas I cannot. Although we can wear jeans…we cannot have our bare ankles out though so that rules out mom jeans.

BeHappyItIsEasier · 19/06/2022 18:54

Eyeing up the Kin trousers now!

@Cuddlywuddlies , in my head, you live in Victorian times, where a laydee showing one's ankle would be OBSCENE 😁

not helping 😅

Cuddlywuddlies · 19/06/2022 19:01

@BeHappyItIsEasier ahhh sorry I totally forgot to say… it’s for safety reasons as I work in a lab 🤣🤣🙈 not Victorian times 😂

BeHappyItIsEasier · 19/06/2022 19:18

I knew it would be something sensible like that really, but I enjoyed the Victorian idea 😁

@Myworhl 😁🦵hairy legs rule! I've put up with shaving rash too long, so I refuse now 🤭
