Capsule Wardrobe

I'm after a good quality capsule wardrobe.

Any recommendations of what should go in it that you have and love - I mean the garment and where its from?

I'm a size 12/14 with a big tummy if the helps.

For me a UK summer capsule wardrobe would have:

2 pairs of jeans (in whatever style suits you)
3 pairs of lightweight trousers
2 dresses
4 long sleeved tops
4 short sleeved T-shirts/tops
Jacket (denim)
Jacket/blazer

Trainers (white or black)
Sandals
"Smarter" shoes such as brogues etc

Go for styles/necklines etc that suit you rather than what's in fashion.

Try to figure out which colours suit you best (2-3 colours) and stick to them for all of the above.

I buy decent quality stuff in the sales. I quite like ethical brands like People Tree, Nomads & Thought, if you can find things in the right colour/style etc.

Thank you! I don't think I've bought from any of those brands before actually so I'll take a look

Are you going to do an all year capsule or change it every season?

I think it depends on lifestyle and work place. I am not allowed to wear jeans at work for example, but otherwise I'd probably have a Mark Zuckerberg / Steve Jobs style uniform of black top and jeans everyday with a few dresses for weekends.

Oncemoreforluck · 19/06/2022 17:33

I would love to start again with a capsule wardrobe.
However, do you not get bored of wearing the same things everyday?

BeHappyItIsEasier · 19/06/2022 17:40

I would love to wear a self imposed work uniform! Takes the decision making out of getting dressed. Also, my work is smart but not stylish, so don't need to look fashionable

Assuming not work clothes, my summer capsule wardrobe would be:

  • 1x maxi skirt
  • 3x dresses
  • 2x cardi
  • 2x sleeveless tops
  • 1 pair jeans
  • 2x lightweight knit
  • sandals
  • trainers
  • denim jacket
  • perhaps a classic mac

If including work:

  • 1x black wideleg trousers
  • 1x cropped trouser
  • 1x blouse
  • 1x blazer
  • 2x top
  • 2x dress

I'd pick complimentary colours, for work probably black, white, blush pink. For casual I'd do red, navy, white with tan accessories and a hit of floral

ProseccoStorm · 19/06/2022 19:04

Oh, and for shops:

  • Jigsaw, Hush, Baukjen. Maybe Zara for the blush pink blazer and Boden for their jersey wide legged trousers.

I'm also a 12/14 with a slight tummy. I follow the rule of 1/3rds when I can, and French tuck which seems most flattering on my shape. I'm quite tall to wear longer lengths as it makes me look leaner. Jeans are boyfriend cut, can't wear mum jeans and skinnies feel very dated.

ProseccoStorm · 19/06/2022 19:05

Oh, I forgot two shirts/blouses. One linen white and one delicate ladylike, probably also white

KenAdams · 20/06/2022 00:43

@Oncemoreforluck possibly, I've never done it before!

I think it would definitely have to be one capsule but then bring in seasonal pieces I already own as there's no point in them being wasted. I dress very neutrally anyway.

Unfortunately I'm a short 12/14 so every lump and bump shows.

I'll have a look at some of the suggested companies :)
