Shorts phobia, with leg pics.

Grin

First off, the shorts are 2 sizes too big (an old, bad purchase!), I just cut the legs off to check how shorts would look on me. I am not quite as square shaped as the shorts make me look.

My issue is my legs, they're generally fine and I am usually happy with my body, but it seems i have developed some wobbly skin. I am late forties and at lowest end of my healthy weight range so am not after losing any. Maybe they were wobbly before but i didnt notice. Theyve never been solid or taught at any age. I am 5'5 and 8st.

But am i deluding myself that I can do something about it, or wear shorts in summer? I hate dresses at the moment and would love to feel the breeze in shorts and a tshirt on hot days. But i have never worn them in my life for some reason. I do feel self conscious about the fact that I am small but jiggly even though I know it's silly and no big deal in the great scheme of life.

It doesn't seem to be regular cellulite, it's more like lines as if the flesh is too loose Blush and it makes me look out of proportion. Am i being daft or would you opt for either longer ones or something else? Please don't insult me for asking, I do know it's ridiculous but we all have our weak spots and my legs are mine.

Pics are front, back, and close up of skin, it is actually more ripply than in the shot.

You have lovely healthy legs, enjoy them.

*I read this on Facebook today and it's very true:

Imagine being 75 and you’re sat thinking about your life and how you never went swimming in the sea on a warm night because your thighs jiggled. Imagine realizing you never laughed until you couldn’t breathe because your teeth weren’t straight or white enough. You never embraced the sun on the beach because of the stretch marks on your stomach and your hips. You never allowed yourself to let go and have fun because the pressure to look perfect consumed you.

Imagine being 75 and realizing you’ve hidden yourself away for the fear of being real. Imagine realizing all the years you wasted hating yourself, but now it’s too late to go swim in the sea late at night. Now it hurts to laugh for more than a few seconds and you’re too weak to travel to the beach. Imagine realizing all this time you were perfect the way you were, but now it’s too late to do anything about it.*

Well no one told my mother this, who gads about with her mates and buys her clothes when she shops with 21 year old dd Grin

Your legs look great, I think the first shorts are best and honestly on most shapes and sizes I think shorter shorts are the most flattering as long as they're not tight. I usually go for high waisted cut off denim then they make my legs look longer!

If I had your legs, I would wear shorts!

LondonQueen · 18/06/2022 13:44

You have very feminine legs with a great skin tone, own it and wear shorts!

Imabouttoexplode · 18/06/2022 16:09

Skin starts to lose elasticity in your late 40s, so it's the age where you really start to see changes. No matter how toned you are, the skin just starts to 'go'. You can of course help with weight training, diet, body brushing, fake tan etc but you'll never have taut skin like a youngster. Bugger all you can do about it I'm afraid. Your legs look great tho. Nice shape etc, so crack on with getting em out for all the world to see!!

It's been said enough times, but I agree, wear the shorts. I will also say that strength training has significant benefits for all women, because it protects bone density, so there's always a good reason to do that. It may also change how your legs look, or it might not. I'm heavier than you, 5'3, and a bit younger and I have some chunky ol' legs, but I strength train and I've long stopped caring because I can deadlift well over 100kg. The shift from looks to function is also extremely helpful. I have a strength and conditioning guy which is not accessible to everyone but it means I keep decent form and protect my joints (hypermobile, another v good reason to lift weights as it creates protective musclulature around them). Full disclosure, for the first time i don't look back at photos and think "I looked better then" - I ran 10k about 5 years ago and I look better now, even if there's no weight lifting for the family jowls I've inherited! But no promises made. But you should do it regardless.

Oh and yes those green shorts are lovely. I could also loan you my kid, who when I said I needed to get changed out of my scruffs (leggings and hoodie) looked indignant and told me I looked very, very good. He's a gem 😁

Hoppinggreen · 19/06/2022 11:42

I just spat my tea on my keyboard and am now crying and shaking at the sight of your legs.
There should be a TW

Of course I am being ridiculous but then so are you. At the end of the day OP it doesn’t matter if hundreds of us think your legs are fine if you aren’t comfortable in shorts then don’t wear them, it’s not compulsory

I have literally never look at someone and thought they shouldn't be wearing shorts or look ridiculous. Like literally never but will I wear shorts through fear? Absolutely not!
The thing is though for me I find them uncomfy but that's just preference.
You look lovely and you will be sooo much more comfy once you've broke the ice and worn them a few times the. It won't even feel like a big deal!
Nobody will notice the things you don't like about yourself. And it won't always feel like a big deal!
You look lovely OP, go for it!
