What would you wear this job interview?

Hi!

I have a job interview coming up for a charity marketing role. I wear jeans and uniform polo shirts in my current role.

I need some inspiration ☺️ please help me look competent, but not too formal. Like I am creative and have great ideas... but I'm also a safe pair of hands. It's a small charity, but ambitious and well managed.

I was thinking a dress or skirt (but what kind of top?). Shoes?

I'm size 8-10, pear shape, approaching 40, small bust.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Title should read TO this job interview 🫤

I always love smart navy trousers, a pussybow blouse and navy jacket. Minimal jewellery, hair half up, straightened the rest!

I would go for something smart casual? Dress with leggings and a blazer you can take off when you arrive? I’ve worked for various charities and they’re always very informal, but people dress smart for job interviews and you don’t want to look like you’ve not made an effort? Better to over dress than under! Goodluck!

@XeX
Do not wear leggings in the summer. I would choose a midi dress. Probably a shirt dress with front buttons. Just wear mid heel pumps. Something comfortable. M&S have surprisingly good dresses this summer. For a charity I would not wear a suit or pussy bow. Much as I like this look, most charities are more relaxed about dress in the office. I think approachable and friendly as opposed to dressed for success is a better look. The smart look is very expensive to maintain and, if it’s not you, it will be a daily struggle. So be true to yourself and be comfortable.

I think you DO need to go smart for any interview if you're serious about wanting the job.

TizerorFizz · 15/06/2022 16:35

Not saying don’t look smart but a suit isn’t necessary in this day and age. Great accessories make you look polished. Good bag snd shoes. Just dressing in a suit for an interview is not being true to yourself and interviewers want smart enough. But more then that, they want your talent. These dresses might work. Easy to dress up and look professional at the same time.

I agree with @TizerorFizz I work in marketing and a dress like those she has posted would be ideal, smart but show some personality and creativity.

XeX · 15/06/2022 17:36

Thanks for all the replies! Yes definitely agree smart is best, but also I think a suit wouldn't really match the vibe - it's a conservation charity in a small town.

I do have this dress from M&S, but I wonder if it is a little too informal. Not sure if I could dress it up with accessories. I do like the red dress that @TizerorFizz posted too.

Also this skirt with a plain white tshirt... too autumnal? If I had some of those knickers that suck your guts in I could probably get away with it haha. Haven't worn it since having a baby.

The skirt colours are a little brighter than the image.

I do think a skirt snd a t shirt is too informal. The dress is better but it’s a shrink into the background look. I’d try something a bit more exciting. You could look in a charity shop and boost your eco credentials.

XeX · 15/06/2022 18:10

I mean... I do like to shrink into the background 🙂 I take your point.

Yes, buying a whole new outfit for an interview with a conservation charity doesn't feel quite right but the local charity shops are pretty poor unfortunately.

Your dress is completely fine to wear for your interview.

teezletangler · 15/06/2022 19:15

I like that dress for the interview.

ThePoetsWife · 15/06/2022 19:17

The dress should be fine

TheFlis12345 · 15/06/2022 19:18

The dress you have is lovely, that would be perfect.

GrinGrinGrin Oh this made me laugh @XeX

Misses the whole point of the thread.......

HarvestFly · 15/06/2022 19:24

And yes I would say your dress is absolutely fine. Maybe with some chunky bright jewellery
