How to wear white

I saw a stylist wearing lots of white/cream/ivory. The only white items I used to wear years ago were white shirts/blouses (Stirling Cooper style if anyone recalls those, early 1990s) with leggings/jeans and white broderie anglaise/cotton vest tops/bodies (late 1980s/early 1990s fashion) with the lace up ties at the back.

For some reason this washes me out, doesn't really suit me but I'd like to incorporate this into my outfits. Any ideas how to do this?

Best way to wear white is to get fake tan on beforehand. Nothing looks better than sunkissed skin against white IMO.

what kind of stuff do you wear now? I like white against a fairly neutral palette - beige, taupe, olive green, pale pink, navy, wood / gold / straw accessories

@ShirleyPhallus - sadly I don't suit many of the colours you describe (I do wear black/navy though) and sometimes gold/straw/metallic accessories.

Separates, I wear denim or chambray and a mix of colours/prints for tops.

You need to find the right shade. I can’t wear white unless I‘m very tanned but I can wear some creams. You say it makes you look washed out, I get the same unless I’ve found the ‘right’ cream/white.

I don’t wear white much as I usually spill food down my front 🙄 however when I do, I fake tan as I’m very pale.
