Is this an investment piece?

www.anthropologie.com/en-gb/shop/broderie-maxi-skirt?category=SEARCHRESULTS&color=010&searchparams=q%3Dmaxi%2520skirt&type=REGULAR&quantity=1

I'm trying to buy good quality classic clothing , this fits the bill I think.
I've worn skirts like this for years and years so it's not suddenly going to look dated in a year or two , is it ?
I hesitated when it was full price as I can't wear it for work and our summers can be hit or miss but with the price reduction I think I might regret not snapping it up.
Any thoughts ?

Colour - yes

style - not so sure - the banded style has been in for a while and I think it’ll go in/out of fashion over time.

the v-waist is probably flattering and if it really suits you I would go for it, as to me having clothes that fit me well and flatter my shape makes for an investment piece - I’m not overly bothered about following fashions.

I don’t think white broiderie Anglias ever has longevity as it’s just too vulnerable to staining etc so it’s a fabric I’ve always favoured buying cheaply.

H&M option

I really loved the v waist , so many skirts are gathered at the waist and that doesn't flatter anyone .
I think I'll still wear it even if it does become a bit dated.

I think it's lovely. I had a long white maxi skirt from Topshop that I bought when I was 19 and still had it up until about 5 years ago so it lasted nearly 20 years! And that was wearing every summer. In theory you could spill/stain any item of light clothing, I wouldn't let that put you off. I have loads of white tops and blouses and they don't stain anymore than any other item of clothing.
It's a lovely, flattering, classic style of skirt that I'm sure you would get lots of wear out of.

That's a good price Galliano.
I never see anything nice in the H&M store , maybe the website is the way to go .

Thank you EllaPaella. I've ordered it . The only potential problem might be the length , here's hoping it doesn't drown me Smile

I wouldn't call it an investment piece at all. It doesn't look like great quality nor is the waistband classic. It says imported and much of Anthropologie's stock is made in China which is why I don't buy from there. You're buying fast fashion at a premium rather than an investment piece.

If you like it, buy it but don't fool yourself that it's an investment piece. You can get better quality for a lower price elsewhere (and without the ethical issues).

barbrahunter · 12/06/2022 15:10

I like it, OP - I hope you enjoy wearing it. Unfortunately I am now tempted to buy the suede shoes that were at the bottom of the page when I was viewing the skirt!

nzeire · 12/06/2022 15:14

I think you’ll get loads of wear out of it for years! It’s beautiful and has a layer of special :$

CountryCousin · 12/06/2022 15:54

This was one of the reasons why I hesitated to post. The other was that I couldn’t find anything much to say about it - to me it looks a bit bland.

That said, anything you fall in love with, that looks good on you and will be worn time after time till it falls apart, is worth having at any price. I would apply those criteria, rather than looking for an ‘investment buy’ - unless I were planning to sell the thing later on.

jolietomate · 12/06/2022 16:32

Not my idea of an investment piece but absolutely a garment you can wear every summer irregardless of current fashion trends.

shinynewapple22 · 12/06/2022 16:49

As jolietomate says - I wouldn't call it an investment piece but it's the kind of skirt I could imagine taking on holiday with me for years to come .

Mercurial123 · 12/06/2022 17:18

If you love something and know you will wear it for a long time surely that's all that matters? I wouldn't call it an investment though it certainly won't hold value if you sell in the future.

CountryCousin · 12/06/2022 17:26

I acknowledge that we shouldn’t take the word ‘investment’ too literally!

Buying a nice summer skirt is an investment in one’s hope for years of well dressed holidaying.

Oceanus · 12/06/2022 17:35

I think it's gorgeous and you can dress it down with a T-shirt and havaianas or up with nice wedges and a fancy summery top. I don't see this as an investment piece per se but I do see it as the sort of item that never really goes out of style, so I can you see you wearing it for years. I have one similar but in a different colour, I bought mine ages ago and I keep seeing them for sale every summer, so if it fits nicely (and this is a personal thing IMHO) I for one wouldn't regret buying it.

DirtyteaCup · 12/06/2022 17:41

Have you seen it in real life?
Anthropologie used to have great brands and quality but these days they seem to have cheaply made 'own brands' with nasty cheap fabric that wouldn't last long enough to be considered an investment piece.

spagbog5 · 12/06/2022 17:47

I like lots of Anthropology stuff but be very careful as their website and online support is awful.
I had to raise a claim through PayPal for an item that never arrived and they just push you from one department to another for weeks on end.
My latest order they cancelled as the items were in stock on the website but they couldn't fulfil it.
Really really frustrating so I just buy in-store now .

IvorCutler · 12/06/2022 19:19

No, I don’t think it’s an investment piece. It’s nice though! It depends on how interested you are in fashion trends really. Could be worn for years and look great if you’ve confidence in your style, or it could look daft by next summer.
