City break capsule

Looking for ideas for what to pack (cabin luggage only) for 3 night Europe City break, Mid July. I always take too much on holiday and either have dressy or too casual things.

Is it somewhere hot?

Assuming it is and if it were me...

  • comfy footwear for daytime
  • cropped trousers + tops for day wear
  • extra eveningy top for one night
  • one summer dress for evening
  • sparkly sandals to dress up
  • lightweight cardigan or jacket for evening

Have fun!

CharlotteSt · 12/06/2022 10:44

Ooh! Bullet points!

LadyEloise1 · 12/06/2022 10:46

Something like a Joules GoLightly packable waterproof rain jacket in case it rains might be handy - depending on where you are going. I love mine.

Its Spain so yes itll hot, oh love the list!
Its the footwear I get wrong too. Like the idea of taking 3-4 inter-changable items. Everyone always looks more classy than I can pull off!

Walking sandals
Wedge sandals for evening (evenings out on a city break normally involve enjoyable walks as well so your dressing up shoes also need to be walkable)
Linen blazer with a buttoned inside pocket
Lightweight trousers
Four lightweight tops
Two lightweight dresses.

Depending on the weather in England you may need to travel in trainers and socks otherwise your feet will freeze on the flight, so you'll need to pack an extra pair of socks for the way home. Ditto a big scarf or close fitting lightweight cardigan for the flights.

Footwear - I have Birkenstocks and/or Skechers. I can walk forever in both. The sparkly sandals I have are flat.

Alwayspaintyournails · 13/06/2022 05:32

You can do this no problem!

My go to for this kind of trip tends to be items I can easily dress up or down. I am a curvy (fat) size 16/18 Apple, bronde balayage hair and pale skin.

Early morning flight out Hush wide leg navy jersey trousers, white T-shirt, denim jacket, sandals and pashmina (turns into a pillow/blanket for flight). I pack socks just in case. Easy to ditch jacket on arrival. I take a small backpack with a cross body bag inside it so I have options for when I’m there.

Day 1 - swap trousers for denim shorts and add sun hat.

Night 1 - black linen dress, wedge espadrilles with big earrings and clutch bag.

Day 2 - black linen dress again, flat sandals you wore the day before, cross body bag and sun hat.

Night 2 - navy chino shorts, silk top/blouse, espadrilles and clutch with layering necklaces and simple earrings.

Day 3 - chino shorts again but with lightweight white blouse tied up and flat sandals, cross body bag and sun hat.

Night 3 - lightweight shirt dress, espadrilles, cross body bag and big earrings.

Day 4 - swim/use yesterdays blouse as a cover up OR denim shorts with T-shirt or vest and flat sandals/sun hat.

Option of jersey trousers for late flight home comfort.

Pack;
Swimwear if hotel has a pool/beach city like Barcelona
Black linen loose fit dress
Lightweight shirt dress

Denim shorts

Navy chino shorts
White lightweight blouse (doubles as a pool cover up)
Cream silk top or blouse
T-shirt or vest top
Espadrille wedges
Clutch bag
Straw hat
Nightwear
Underwear

Few pieces of inexpensive jewellery

Hair ties

Be smart with your make up etc too - ie. Chanel lip to cheek is a good multi product.

@Alwayspaintyournails

Awesome list and perfect for our weekend in Cannes next weekend.
Thanks so much- really helpful

crispsandnuts · 14/06/2022 12:16

great list! Now looking for a linen dress, do they not crease?

OP posts:
LadyEloise1 · 14/06/2022 13:07

Linen creases dreadfully.
I'd go for cotton jersey.

Alwayspaintyournails · 14/06/2022 19:35

I have a few of the linen blend dresses from next (V front and back) and they aren’t too bad for creasing. My more expensive one from Reiss is terrible!
