I'm sitting watching my beloved Mother in Law dying. She's not in pain, she's slowly slipping away.
One of the things she loved was perfume, particularly Daisy.
It's got me thinking that I need perfume for wearing at work, and the wonderful vipers might help with suggestions. I'd love having something lovely to think about while I wait for her next breath.

I need something not too strong, that smells not too sexy, I'm looking for grown up, expensive.

I like Quercus and Paris-Deauville but I all my colleagues are men and I often feel like I'm wearing aftershave in those scents.

I love smoky/floral scents, adore Camellia Intrepide and Halfeti but they are very inappropriate for my workplace.

I don't want to smell like a boiled sweet! So flowerbomb and others like it are no good for me.

I tried going back to classics like Miss Dior and Chanel 5 but they feel like I'm pretending to be a grown up.

Any suggestions?

Ormonde Jayne . Order some samples. All grown up and beautifully crafted.

What do you think of J’adore? My favourite grown up, expensive, not sickly sweet perfume and lasts well. But it’s definitely floral, not at all smokey. Perhaps more enticing than sexy.

Loewe Aura Pink Magnolia amazing scent! Bought for me in a random must buy the wife something at the airport moment .. picked up the most expensive stuff on show and I absolutely love it.

Do you know about this? Organic, small batch, made 4 times a year to correspond to the changing of the seasons.
I love them

MrszClaus · 11/06/2022 10:24

I love myrrh and tonka from jo malone - it's my go to work perfume as it's not too sickly sweet and it's adult enough I don't feel like a child in my anais anais!

Hoolahulahoop · 11/06/2022 10:26

Chanel Gabrielle isn't it too strong and is very wearable.
Hope this time passes peacefully for your mil. Best wishes

My two favourites are Lancome Idole and Chanel Chance. Always get complimented on these. Not too strong as long as you don't drown yourself in it.

BeaLola · 11/06/2022 11:22

I'm a Chanel girl - Coco or Coco Mademoiselle, Gardenia , No5, or Estée Lauder Knowing

Thinking of you and your dear MIL. Flowers

evilharpy · 11/06/2022 17:19

I also thought of Coco Mademoiselle.

Thinking of you.

Silverplatedchocolatehobnob · 11/06/2022 17:54

I was going to suggest Coco Mademoiselle or Chloe - I wear and adore both but I'm not really a grown up Blush

Flowers for you and your lovely MIL, you're doing an amazing thing and she'll know you're with her xx

Calvin Klein Eternity, and Eternity Moment when you need something lighter.

Clarins Eau Dynamisante is distinctive and memorable, but not overpowering.p

PAFMO · 11/06/2022 18:42

Have you tried 31 Rue Cambon from Chanel Exclusifs?
It's got that typical "expensive" and "classy" hint that (imo) only Chanel and older Guerlains and Diors can do.

If you like smoke and spice though maybe an Andy Tauer or Byredo.

I also love Paris-Deauville, though others I would suggest along those lines are very much summer scents like P-D. Oddly though, just this morning I was wearing Ô de Lancome and DD said I smelled like a smoked lemon, it's a chypre lemon (like Mary Greenwell's Lemon) rather than a simple citrus.

Sending you much strength to see you through these hours with your dmil. Flowers

Get an Ormonde Jayne Discovery Lab - try the Floral or Signature collection and you won't be disappointed. There are 7 vials, but each one has a good week's worth of perfume in it; In my experience, there will be at least 2 that you will fall in love with. Because they use really rare ingredients that no one else uses, they honestly smell extraordinary, different...but just beautiful. I haven't stopped enjoying them for 15 years! And best thing is that the perfumer & owner is a British mum and they are made in UK.

Can you put some daisy on her pillow?
