Wedding attire woes

I’m attending a wedding this weekend as a guest, and I have precisely one day to get something sorted to wear. In my defence, I’ve been working/busy non stop for weeks and haven’t had the opportunity to go shopping.

What the fuck do I wear? I know this is ridiculous but I haven’t been to a wedding as a guest for over 20 years, my friends aren’t the marrying kind I guess!

It’s a catholic wedding in Ireland if that makes any difference. I’m heading into town tomorrow to see what I can find but I know panic will set in and it’s going to be traumatic.

I’m 41 (but look younger), size 10, quite tall. Would like to look up to date, classy but not like someone’s nan.

I never go anywhere smart so I need everything, including shoes, accessories etc. Also, do I need some kind of jacket or something in the church? What’s the done thing?

Please give me some starting points.

I always do my own hair and makeup. Don't worry too much about it.

The thing that is troubling me most about this is eye make up. I can do a semi reasonable Smokey eye thing but would that be a bit much for day time? If so what colour eyeshadow do you reckon for navy dress, silver accessories, hazel eyes?

Grey eyeshadow would look great. What about tightlining and then grey eyeshadow to shade socket & then blend? Defined but not too much. Then you could either go red lipstick or a neutral plus blush. I'd say you don't want to put too much makeup on anyway - too much can wear badly throughout the day. Lipstick is easily topped up though.

Dress is fab by the way.🙂

OP are you going to be in Dublin for a while when you fly in? You could head to Dundrum shopping centre on the bus or the luas - they have Brown Thomas (which has loads of weddingy type stuff), L.K. Bennett, Hobbs, Mint Velvet etc.

Oops, sorry I missed the part where you already got a dress - it's lovely!! I wouldn't bother with a fascinator tbh.

Def no to the fascinator!!!

Smoky eye, pinky blush, nude lips

That dress is beautiful btw

Thanks for the make up hints! Much appreciated. Jury is still out on the fascinator then 🤣. Honestly that woman in the shop was so convincing.

No, not going near Dublin, flying into Knock then going into the depths of Mayo. I think Castlebar is as good as it gets for shopping around there.

UPDATE- I look like a prize bellend with the fascinator on so it’s staying in England and being returned. Quite pleased with the rest of the ensemble though. Thanks so much everyone.

That’s a lovely dress - Hobbs on Milsom Street is a great shop. If you need help with makeup, have you looked at Lisa Eldridge videos on YouTube? She is excellent - all sorts of tips, for smoky eyes, wedding makeup (useful for guests and brides!), occasion makeup etc. Simple, straightforward and easy to follow. Hope you have a wonderful time!

You could grab a pack of velcro rollers and grips from boots and a can of elnette.

Blow your hair dry, take sections, spray, put in a roller, repeat. Spray the whole thing, leave it while you do makeup, dress, however long you can, then unpin and shake it out at the last moment.

Hope you don't mind me asking where did you get the silver shoes and bag from? Dress looks lovely btw.also under time pressure for wedding prep . hope you have a lovely time

Landed safely in Ireland, sweet Jesus it’s windy here! The plane couldn’t land for nearly an hour because it was too windy so it just flew around in circles. Rubbish weekend for a wedding 😞. So on that basis, I’m not worrying too much about my hair, I reckon everyone will look like a scarecrow as soon as they step outside 🤣. I did bring my curlers which I’ve never actually used until I had a practice last night, it didn’t look too bad and with the wind I think I can get away with it not being done perfectly.

I got the silver sandals from Schuh, and the bag from Accessorize.
