Help me with my grey hair please

Like many people I gave up having my hair coloured during COVID and my hair is now its natural colour. It is more silvery at the front which I like but the rest is salt and pepper with some brown bits. I remember my mother’s hair was similar in her 70’s. I’m in my 60’s. I have a wedding to go to later in the year and am growing my hair, with a view to having some sort of up-do.
As you can see it is dry at the ends, despite me using an elasticiser and other conditioning products.
I would love to be able to have it all a bit nearer in colour to the front for the wedding but don’t want to get back on the salon colouring roundabout.
Can anyone suggest a way to get my hair in better condition and nearer silver than salt and pepper in colour? Thanks in advance.

I’ve been grey for over 10 years. The only solution to keeping your hair in good condition is regular trimming. You could use a purple shampoo to tone down any brassy colour but it’s very drying so you would need to condition it well.

I’ve just done this with my hair, it was almost white at the front and still dark at the back, my hairdresser did a fab job and it’s now amazing compared to before, but it was a whole afternoon in the hairdressers getting the back of my head to silver as unfortunately highlights and toning were the only way to lift the pepper to a lighter shade.

Thank you @Blimeyherewegoagain and @Wobblington.

I am growing my colour out and it's a lot more salt & pepper than I thought it would be. I'm on some grey haired facebook groups, one is Silver Sisters. Some women on there have toned / highlighted to blend their hair, but some of them say they regretted it.
I think your hair could do with a good trim, possibly into more of a bob shape. You could still have it styled to look a bit 'up' on the day.
I'd recommending joining some of the facebook groups as they a really helpful.

I'm only 48 but grey as a badger and I'm horribly allergic to any hair dye. I went very short (pixie cut) about 10 years ago. This may be an unpopular opinion but it is very rare to see healthy looking long, grey hair.

It's absolutely possible to have healthy long grey hair.

I only wash mine once a week, I alternate weekly with a good quality purple shampoo and don't wash my scalp just the ends and then a charcoal scalp scrub.

I then use a hair mask, for the bottom two-thirds of my hair. Squeeze any moisture out and then let it dry completely naturally. I say this OP because you look as though you have textured hair too, so this method will help your grey and any texture you have. You need to avoid stripping oil and allow your hair to express itself!

The purple shampoo will help bring out the silver but can be quite drying which is why it's only a forghtnightly job. It's also not a great to use shampoo too often for the same reason.

NEVER use heat on your/our hair-type, it hates it!

I stand corrected - yours looks stunning.

Your hair looks fantastic @TreeOfPain From your picture, it looks like I have similar texture and wave to you, so I’m very tempted to go down the natural grey route now.

It looks fine.

Mine is white at the front with speckles through the rest of my dark brown hair that has gone thin due to underactive thyroid & other illnesses. My hair hasn't been cut or coloured for over 3 years due to the pandemic & being housebound. I can sit on my hair, I'm having it cut & coloured soon but can't decide between full head colour or highlights as normally I am blonde.
