Sunglasses with ultra thin varifocal lenses - where?

After a two week long palaver with Specsavers, resulting in a full refund (yay!) I need to find some sunglasses.

I need varifocal, ultra-thinned lenses (preferably 1.74 index) with a dark tint.
Apparently, this is impossible, according to Specsavers, but I don’t believe them.

I have to pick one option, possibly two, but not the whole lot.

Am I asking for the moon on a stick? Or can you recommend somewhere that can definitely do this?

I've tried posting this about 6 times now, so fingers crossed it works this time!

Off topic but try using distilled or boiled water with your alocasias as they are sensitive to too many minerals and salts which can build up in the soil.

You can try leaching the soil regularly ( flushing the whole pot through with water), only use plant food sparingly in the growing period and keep them halfway between light and shade.

I don't know if this helps but my prescription is:

R: sph -7, cyl -0.25, axis 010, add 2.5
L: sph -7.5, add 2.5
Lens: 1.74 camber steady ind m/l hmm

Lenses by MBOS

They are perfect for me and I have stuck with the brand and spec for many many years.

Last specs were about £675. I try to make a pair of specs last for three years. However, my specs sit on my face and I like nice ones. Having said that I think the frames were about £150.

I went to another high street chain quite a few years ago and the specs they provided me with were completely unbalanced and it wasn't a question of getting used to them. They were also £850!

Specsavers said I can't have transition lenses for my -14 (very high myopia) 1.74 lenses. Does anyone know if it could be done elsewhere? I have had to buy specs and prescription sunglasses and was hoping to get just one pair!

@Elodie09 try an independent opticians. They will likely have access to more lens manufacturers and hence more options

Elodie09 · 28/03/2023 19:27

@Alocasia Thank you, that seems a good idea. I've been having a bit of a look on line , just for research, and some companies say that they can offer transitions. I will ask around for a good local optician and go and have a chat . Thanks again !

@Elodie09 I think Essilor (lens manufacturer) would do a lens to suit you, but I’m sure the other big companies (Nikon, Zeiss etc) have their own products too. If you ring around some
independents and ask you should find someone. Mention your -14 prescription to them so they can check you are within range of any available lenses
