L'Oreal Preference hair dyr new formula

I was wondering if anyone uses the L'Oreal Preference hair dye and has noticed any difference since they renamed the shades and also reduced the dying time from 45 minutes to 35 minutes?
I have been using this same brand for years, but have used the newly branded product twice now and the dye only seems to last for a maximum of 2 weeks before my roots show again.

I feel disappointed and am thinking of changing brand but feel a bit nervous to do that after all these years, but also don't feel comfortable now having to dye my roots every couple of weeks rather than every 2 or 3 months.

Sorry, it should say 'dye' in my title.

Please let me know if you find a good alternative if you don't mind.

Just coming back on to add some information in case someone else is having the same problem - I decided to give the dye one more try as I had another box of it in the cupboard.

All these years of using it the instructions have been that you have had to apply the dye to dry, unwashed hair. I read the instructions carefully today and they have changed it now to applying the dye to wet hair instead.

This time the dye seems to have taken properly and has stayed on for several weeks.

I use Excellence and it has always been applied to dry hair. As I recall, Preference has always been applied to wet hair. Is it possible that you have mixed them up?

Roots showing depends only on how fast your hair grows, surely? Dye doesn't 'wear off' at the roots. My hair seems to grow at different rates at different times of year, and this affects how often I have to touch up my roots.

No it is definetely Preference and the instructions had always said apply to dry unwashed hair. They quite recently change the names and numbers describing the colours of the product and cut the dyeing time down from 40 to 30 minutes.

The colour obviously wasn't taking properly because I wasn't using it properly, nothing to do with my roots growing out faster - I have been using the same dye for years and was used to the routine of when I needed to redo it.

I use L'Oréal and probably go between preference and excellence - whatever's on sale.
Never do I recall the dye time to be as much as 45 - I've always done 30. And I vaguely remember one switching to wet hair years ago but I only put it on dry.
Whichever i last used has now added a shampoo step instead of just rinsing the dye out which I don't like.
I think it lasts as long as usual.
Clairol is a good alternative.

I noticed this too I use this vivid colours bright red and was always dry hair, even when they changed it from colorista ro preference I kept putting it on dry hair but today I was reading the instructions and it said wet hair and I thought wtf only semi's go on wet hair! Gonna make a start anyway so hope the colour grabs and stays as it fades badly after one wash
