Velvet to a 50th birthday in June? At a fancy venue. Not black tie or anything.

If you have a velvet dress that you feel really great in, then sure. Wear it. If you are going shopping for something I would suggest a lighter, summer weight fabric would be more appropriate.

When I was young I was told never to wear velvet before 6pm. I rebelled and bought a velvet trouser suit, wore it at all times and felt fabulous.

Wear something they makes you feel fabulous.

If you feel fabulous in it then go for it.

I only tend to wear velvet in the winter months but always feel good in it.
