New denim smells of bleach

Has anyone else had this?

I've recently bought a new pair of jeans and ds a pair of denim shorts from different shops and they both smell really strongly, kind of a bleach smell.

I've washed both 3 times and they still smell.

Are they black denim?

No but a very dark blue

Yes, I've had this a lot! It does normally go when I wash it though... Maybe try a different detergent?

Yes I've had it with lots of denim items too. I assume it's something from the manufacturing process. It goes away eventually but not necessarily after the first wash.

Yes they often seem to, though I assume that was literally the chemicals used in the bleaching/dyeing process.

I'd put it in on a warm wash with some fragrance beads or similar and air on the line, i'm sure it will go eventually. Equally nobody else will (one assumes!) be sniffing your shorts and jeans up close so I doubt it would be noticeable.
