Redesign diamond necklace

I have always wanted a Tiffany’s diamonds by the yard single diamond necklace but could never justify the price. I have a diamond necklace that I would like to redesign into the Tiffany style. However, I don’t have the original paperwork for the diamond necklace and I’m scared that the diamond might be swapped for a more cheaper one in the redesigning process (was told by a friend to be careful) without my knowledge.

any recommendations for any reputable jewellers who do this? And what sort of a price range I’m looking at.

To be honest, and jeweller with decent online reviews would be absolutely crazy to risk their reputation for a diamond. Is it a huge stone?
I personally know a number of jewellers through work and they are scrupulously honest. I would chose a jeweller who has a workshop in the same building as the shop.
If you are supplying the diamond and just want one set on the chain I would say £600ish in platinum.

I will be using the chain and the diamond (the whole pendant basically) to get it redesigned. It’s in white gold and I would like it in yellow gold this time. Might take it to a few and see what they say.

The jeweller won't be able to change the colour of the gold from white to yellow. However, you could scrap the white gold to offset some of the cost of the yellow gold.
Theoretically you could gold plate the white gold in yellow gold, but it'll wear off and look a bit rubbish after a while.

Unless you go to a really dodgy shop with a 5 carat whopper of a diamond its highly highly unlikely anyone will be swapping the stones - DBTY are usually small diamonds so im assuming its similar? A jeweller will not want to steal it so dont worry.

Look on Instagram and Facebook for examples of local jewellers workshops remodels - thats what I did when I got a ring remade.

And yes they may take your white gold for scrap but they will not use it to make the new chain, its more likely they use a new chain and design a new setting for your diamond.

It cost me around £700 to do this with a ring last year
