Make up / skin care products for a 45 year

I used to have very good skin, and looked much younger than actual age. I never did any skincare routine and now my face has some redness on forehead and cheeks, light pigmentation on cheek bones, visible pore and laughter lines, and my eye brows have thinned.
I bought Charlotte Tilbury's magic eye cream after reading online reviews last year but didn't see any difference.

I am thinking of trying bare mineral foundation and loose powder but confused.
Can someone recommend me their favourite make up and skincare products and routine to bring back my skin to life.

Tretinoin, sunscreen and Careprost for the eyebrows. I purchase the tret and Careprost from tretinoin world. Legit company and product arrive in 2 days. I have spent years and lord knows how much money on products that don’t do Jack. Tret is really the gold standard. I’m also a big fan of glossier boy brow.

Hi OP. For me there are 4 steps.

Cleanse - Remove your make up and clean your skin. So face wash in the morning and cream or oil cleanser with a warm flannel at night.

Treat - This is where the work on improving your skin is done. So retinol at night and a serum during the day. Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid are good ingredients to look out for.

Hydrate - Day cream and night cream, whichever suits your skin.

Protect - SPF is absolutely essential. I use an SPF 50 which I spray over my make up 3 times per day.

My Retinol comes on prescription from Skin &Me. And I use Inkey list or The Ordinary serums during the day.

I'd strongly recommend using CeraVe sensitive wash followed by CeraVe cream. I saw a huge difference in 3 weeks and then make up sat much more nicely on my face.

Thank you so much to all 4 posters for your suggestions. Very helpful.

OP, retinol/tretinoin only at night and if you go for retinol, you my must put on sunscren every single day for at least a week afterwards - you can't skip this step- so retinol is a long-term commitment otherwise you get stops!. Start with retinol (small concentration), and work your skin up to tretinoin. If you're going on holiday somewhere sunny, stop a couple of weeks before.
Glycl. acid is good for pigmentation - but you must use SPF religiously every single for a week after. It can't be combined with retinol. I have a cleanser from Skinceuticals which I use every now and then (when I can be bothered! hahha).
Lookingoutside has a routine similar to mine but I do some things differently:

  • I wash my face in the morning with a regular cleanser (Avène). In the evening, if I'm removing makeup I use an oil-based cleanser first (I'm using one from Lâncome but I wouldn't recommend, get those dead cheap ones from Amazon Japan, much better quality, heck they invented the stuff) and I'll use the morning non-oil cleanser after (that's because the Lâncome isn't that great, the Japanese ones don't need this extra step).

  • I don't have a morning and an evening cream. I use a face mist from Toleriane and a Rosehip oil or gel (usually only in the evening). My skin isn't super dry though.

  • If I'm putting on makeup I skip the mist and I use a SPF 50 moisturising cream under my makeup (Hada Labo moisturiser, SPF and makeup primer, baby blue tub) and then I use a mineral SPF brush from ISDN (I'm allergic to SPF mists) over the makeup

  • I have an Hada Labo hyal. acid lotion which I use under the face mist or just by itself if I'm staying home (and when I used retinol regularly).

  • I used to use retinol but it's been a while since I stopped so I won't recommend one. I would however say you'd be wiser to get it from a proper company not a shaddy one online - don't save money here.

I am 50 year old and I am also using some the skin care products but along with that I take a good healthy balanced diet and drink 4-5 liters of water.
Also I use the good quality serum like dragon's blood serum , hydrating moisturizer, cleanser and a detox face mask.
These are the good option to reduce the wrinkles and acne from your skin.

May l ask which one you use, please? Thank you.

@katseyes7

Ambre Solaire Garnier super UV over make up spray with hyaluronic acid. Jesus how long is that name? 😂

I get it on subscription from Amazon so when I’m about to run out one drops through the letterbox.

This stuff is great for redness and texture.

Bare mineral foundation plus loose powder sounds a bit dry unless your skin is very oily. If you only have redness in patches, I'd try a lightish concealer applied with a brush then set with powder if necessary. I like Chanel or Mac.

Glossier Boy Brow is great for thinning brows while looking very natural.

I use Skin + Me as well. As I got older (50 now), I've found that mineral foundation sinks into my lines. I normally wear Ultrasun factor 50 tinted sun cream, and then some Trinny just a touch. I wear bronzer and blusher on top of that, plus a stick eyeshadow, eyeliner and some mascara. I don't use black eyeliner any more as I think it makes me look older. I also get my eyebrows microbladed. This all takes about 4 minutes in the morning, and it makes me look put together without it being too heavy.
