Where do women buy + sell clothes these days? eBay, Vinted?

I have a huge pile of good quality clothes to sell. In my day, I sold them on Ebay. Is that still the place for this kind of thing? Or is it Vinted now?

I'm trying to sell a few things on Vinted but not having much luck. I don't know if I'm missing a trick. Do you have to pay to 'boost' the listing or something?

ThickCutSteakChips · 22/07/2022 09:36

With Vinted, do you have to just use the money you make as credit to buy on there, or can you move it into your bank account? I'm going on holiday soon and hammering it at the moment, but am thinking of trying out selling some bits soon as well?

IsThisNameTaken · 22/07/2022 09:46

I listed on Vinted for the first time yesterday - only 10 items - but 2 have already sold this morning and I have about 50 notifications telling me people have 'favourited' my items. Am impressed with how easy it was to list them, much easier than ebay. Think I may have priced them too cheaply though .... Only thing I don't like is that buyer can choose postal method and the 2 things I've sold mean I have to go to 2 parcel shops (in opposite directions from my house).

I sell and buy on vinted and find it so user friendly I would definitely recommend it. I leave my balance in there and when I'm looking for something new like I wanted a denim jacket recently, I try to get it on vinted. It means I'm moving my stuff on and getting stuff back that I will use but kind of for free!

I sell in Vinted mainly but you can say in your description which postal services you use and I think you can disable some postal options

@IsThisNameTaken what’s your Vinted username? PM me if you don’t want to share on here.
I ❤️ Vinted!

Happy for anyone to look at my items! It's hmc212121

Please don’t use Thrift+. I’ve had an abysmal experience with them as a seller. Absolutely do not recommend.

Bananaman123 · 22/07/2022 22:10

EBay is ok apart from fees. Facebook worked for a while but the group I sold in was saturated with items for sale. Vinted I have been using for a few months and really like it. I have found however I price up a bit for what I’m willing to accept as many people offer a lower amount. It’s handy being able to use drop off points rather than Royal Mail too.

I'm going to try Vinted! It's mainly kids' stuff. I just feel a lot of the good stuff I should try and get some money back on. I still send lots to charity, but it would be good to sell some on. Has anyone had good success with kids' things?

Lamentations · 22/07/2022 23:12

Vinted all the time now. Much better than eBay. Moving money to your bank account is very easy (for the PP who was asking).

Would different photos help? I always think clothes look nicer if they're hung on hangers.

Borisisafecklesstoad · 23/07/2022 00:00

I love vinted for buying and selling kids clothes, ive sold about 200 bits since i joined in March, i can finally see the floor in the spare room!

Top tips would be to try and upload as much as you can at once or at least upload the same sizes on the same day. I tend to do this with the kids stuff and it means people can bundle up a few bits.

For us it means i can use the balance to buy the kids "new" stuff and i can even let them choose what they want themselves. Would thoroughly recommend

Probably ... I know they don't look great (and definitely could do with an iron!) but as long as I sell a few I'm not that worried. If it was more expensive stuff I'd make an effort I think but this is just stuff that's a bit too good to throw away. Will happily put it in the charity bag in a few weeks if it doesn't sell.

MisgenderedPaul · 23/07/2022 14:18

@IsThisNameTaken . I am so sorry. I thought you were the poster asking why her items weren't selling. My mistake. I didn't mean to be rude.

Don't worry! No offence taken 😀

I like vinted

Ashamedteeth · 23/07/2022 18:21

vinted - i would only sell a higher value item on ebay

eggsellentwork · 24/07/2022 16:09

I tried vinted and had such bad customer service as a buyer and seller that I would never go near it again. the extra fee for customer protection is a total scam.

HundredMilesAnHour · 24/07/2022 16:41

After reading this thread, I signed up for Thrift but they don't have any Thriftbags available to send out right now (and there's no indication when they will have). Pretty poor show! So probably back to Ebay for me after reading the bad feedback on Vinted.

(I need to have a massive clear-out of designer shoes I never bloody wear).

barnowltwittwoo · 24/07/2022 17:23

I’ve made quite a bit on Vinted in the last couple of months. I currently have one parcel missing with yodel though. That’s been my only issue.

Thanks for this. Think I'll give it a shot.

I also found Thrift awful. A shame as I liked the concept. The photos of the garments I sent were appalling. I got a £2 cut of a £15 item.
